Wow, just reading this thread makes me want to watch this movie again and buy it's soundtrack! I always liked this movie. My parents actually nicknamed me after Quasi, and, as you can see, I've used that nickname as part of my user name, but it's spelled a little different from Quasi. It sounds the same though. Anyway, I like this movie because I can relate to Quasi. This is probably why my parents nicknamed me after him! You see, like Quasi, I was born a little different, and that's another reason why I like this movie. It teaches you to see past people's outside differences and just like them for who are they are on the inside. I would also have to say that Frollo is possibly my favorite Disney villain because he was the only one who really scared me as a kid. I would really love it if this movie was released on DVD again.

I've been pronouncing your username in my head all wrong. Oh, that's all right. We all make mistakes sometimes. I'm not mad or anything, just curious! ;D How did you think it was pronounced at first?

quazie89- I absolutley agree with everything you said on Quasimodo! He's a wonderful engaging character. He's been a favorite of mine since I was young. He's so gentle and intelligent. He just needs to learn self-confidence. He's a sympathetic character for not only is birth-deformity (Which is not nearly as hideous as those superficial villergers made it out to be.They weren't tha attractive either) He's mentally abused and even neglected. It's depressing knowing that people like him who are born different yet have such potental are treated so poorly. And for what? People like him deserve every oppertunity to shine. Especially if they're as kind and thoughtful as him. I'd rather be with a man like Quasimodo who has quality as opposed to a man like Gaston who has nothing valuable to offer.

I thought i rhymed with the word crazy I'm not trying to make fun of you or anything but that's kind of funny. I've never thought of it sounding that way before but I guess it can be, now that I think about it!

So I bought this recently on DVD and it's got me thinking, why on EARTH hasn't this been given the 2-Disc treatment or even a special edition treatment? I assume that part of the argument will be the fact that it's one of Disney's darker films but even still, The Black Cauldron has a Special Edition DVD (albeit not 2 disc) and I honestly can't get my head around the fact that this film keeps to be continually ignored as they're updating the Special Editions.
I genuinely hope that they don't leave it too long to give this the 2 Disc treatment a I for one think it 100% deserves it.
(Also as a note, here in the UK we weren't treated to the audio commentary that the US got on the basic DVD, we got pretty much nothing!)

I agree 100% with you Elliot. If The Black Cauldron of all Disney films can have a Special Edition DVD, why can't this? That film not only flopped at the Box office, it hasn't recieved much acclaim since it's release back in 19885. This film has gained a great deal of popularity since it's release back in 1996. If anything it's become more beloved and respected by many audience members. Ever since Disney Traditional Animation has gone dowmhill, this film has reached much closer to the classic status. Audiences are finally starting to appriciate just what a great quality film this is. I personally think it should not only have a Special Edition DVD set, but a Blu-ray release. I think it would be a gorgeous piece. I'm sorry you didn't get an audio commentary Elliot. It wasn't anything special or unique, but it was still fascinating to hear the directors and producer's opinions on how the film turned out.

I watched this the other day for the first time in years (maybe for the first time since I joined the forum ^^ In some ways, now that I'm an adult, I like the film better than I did when I was younger. (I was about 16 when the film was first released), but in other ways, I find I like it less. I find that I can appreciate the darker themes much better, but I find some of the humor to be a bit jarring. Now, of course, I like humor, but sometimes the contrast between Funny!Random!Gargoyles and the more serious parts of the film to be too much of a contrast. Not that the gargoyles aren't funny, mind you; it's just they don't always fit the tone of the flim. I have more I want to say, but I have to get off the computer now.

Actually, when I watch it, I skip the gargoyle's song. It's too lighthearted and forced. I think the gargoyles are good in the movie for the little kids, but besides that, I don't really like them. Or well, I only really like them when they themselves are being more serious. Such as encouraging Quasimodo to be a stronger person.

The Gargoyles song A Guy Like You is actually my favourite song of them all in THOND! It's so much silly, fab and light-hearted fun! What more can I say? I love being different!

I watched this movie completely through for the first time in years a few days ago and I never realized how powerful and deep many of the songs are. And the art and animation....just amazing!
I also never noticed that throughout the whole movie it is comparing Frollo and Quasi, their views on the world and such. Hell fire and heaven's light, then Frollo and Quasi's different parts in Out There. The line that sticks with me the most from the beginning is "Who is the monster and who is the man?"

The pharse "Never judge a book by it''s cover" was created for a reason. Frollo just didn't take it heart. Ms.Whoo- I'm so glad you enjoyed it! When I was child, this was one of my least favourtite Disney films. It was too dark for me. I really think it's only when you mature that you can appriciate this type of writing and film-making. The gargoyes are the only characters put in for enjoyment purposes. Every other character has a painful and even tramatic journey to go through. Not a lot of laughter and happiness to go around. Most other Disney films have that in there for their main characters. Disney took a huge risk. I think it paid off. Now it's one of my favourite films ever!

When I was watching it I was just in awe. When I was a kid I still loved it, the darkness never bothered me....but I was kind of a creepy kid and it was still my favorite next to Atlantis. xD
I am surprised it took me this long to watch it again. And "God Help the Outcasts" is such a gorgeous song.
