I also don't care for gruesome violence.
A movie I hadn't even heard of until I saw Jurassic Park in 3-D that has captured my interest is "Now You See Me." Now I'm trying to decide if it needs the big screen experience.

It looks really funny. And has a great cast. Anything with Morgan Freeman is, to me, a theatre experience. ^^

An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.
Looks really interesting.
Here is the official trailer:

-_-
That is a similar idea to a movie I've had in my head, haha. To be fair, mine is based off a book. I'm interested to see this now to see how they pull it off. Thanks, Arielle!

I'm adding three more movies to my list Elysuim on August 9th. It stars Matt Damon and Jodi Foster Prisoners September 20th. It stars Hugh Jackman, Terrance Howard, and Viola Davis. Rush also released on September 20th. Starring Chris Hemsworth (fangirl inside of me squealing) Daniel Bruhl, and Olivia Wilde. It's directed by Ron Howard. Each look thrilling, psyologically disturbing, and thought-provoking.

Wow... When they said 2013 was going to be the year for good movies, they meant it!
I am adding 2 Guns to my list, starring Denzel Washington and Matt Dameon. It looks to be an action with good comedy bits.
Just went to see The Purge. Silver, as promised, it isn't super scary. I rank scare factor at a 6. Gore at a 5.5. It was more twisted than anything. It wasn't the greatest movie I have ever seen, but it was still good. And it had a lot of unexpected twist and turns that were good. And it is based in 2022... Not that distant of a future. Kinda leaves you wondering, though! Plus it left me with the thought, who really likes me? Overall, I rate this movie a 6.5, with plans of owning it.

Arielle- I'll have to check out the trailer for 2 Guns. Not familar with it.
Oddly enough I was thinking about something the other day. It's pretty rare that I watch a graphic violent or a horror type film. I did read the plot lines to The Purge and Evil Dead on Wikipedia. Just as I expected, it sounded way too much for me to handel. I will say you do make a good point. Who does honestly have your back and who simply grinds their teeth into a prtend smile? And how good is our judge of character on that? I think the ideas for these films are better then the actual production quality.
Yet Jurassic Park is one of my favourites. It's hardly a feel good film. This is an exception to me because the film's idea doesn't just work. It's how it was exectued. I get the right amount of chills without having nightmares haunt me. There's isn't mass amounts of blood. Mr. Spielberg takes the long forgotten approach. Give the audience a hint at the character's demise without making it a full blown blood fest. The sceaming in the backround is what I find the most effective as with the score by John Williams. There's just as many good intimate character interaction moments as well as the thrill of the disaster film. I can also appriciate that Steven Spielberg brings in heavy themes without too much preeching. I think horror films would be recieving a lot more critical acclaim if they followed this trejectory in their film-making.

I love that point about Spielberg. Jaws is very similar. When Spielberg realized that the screentime for the shark would be very brief because the robot didn't work like they hoped, he changed the movie some. And the music with the fin proved to make the shark even more terrifying when the time came.
I think Jurassic Park works because the fear came from dinosaurs hunting for their next meal. They didn't much care if their next meal was a scientist or another dino.

^^Alan Grant saying to the kids "They're not monsters. They're just animals." is one my favourite lines. I'm glad Steven Spielberg made the dinosours the antagonists and not the actual villains.
Some would ask what the difference is. The dinsours were behaving naturally. They were not holding any grudges out of greed or jealousy. If you're a carnivore. You eat meat. They were not after then humans for fun. It was only the're hunting instincts kicking in.

Jurassic Park doesn't really have a villain per se unless you count Nedry. In Chrichton's original novel, John Hammond is the real villain, but he was radically different in the movie.
Ultimately for the story to really work, the dinosaurs need to be the victims. The story is ultimately about the arrogance of man and the follies of playing God and trying to do things that nature separated.

Well it looks like the Terrance Malick film Knight and Cups that will star Christian Bale and Natalie Portman has been pushed back til next year. I'll make it by though because director David O'Russel (The Fighter and The Silver Linnings Playbook) is releasing a drama called American Hustle on December 13th. It stars Christian Bale ,Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams. The plot sounds so intrigueing. Can not wait for the trailer!
