I wouldn't be opposed to a sequel of Tangled, but you guys are right, the story would have to have some serious substance for it to be deemed passable for Disney fans. Especially with sequels in the past. TLK II is an example of a great sequel, but then the prequel was installed, for the money (imho). When will this ever end? To be fair, there hasn't been a Disney sequel in a while. Pixar, on the other hand, seems to be taking over those reins.

Well, I've also heard it rumored that Disney is pulling out of the Direct to Video sequel market. It might actually be true if they really haven't done one in a while. Then again, they could be working on a sequel to something right now and just haven't announced it to the public yet.

Disney has pulled out of the direct to video sequel market. They haven't made one in years and actually closed down the studio that was producing those projects. When Disney bought Pixar and brought John Lasseter in as head of Walt Disney Feature Animation, one of Lasseter's first changes was to shut down almost all of the direct to DVD projects, including a Toy Story movie.
Under current Disney Feature Animation leadership, I think the only way we'll see a Tangled sequel is if the filmmakers want to make one. And that's the way it should be.

I have not heard of anything in regards to a sequel. No offense but it sounds more like a fan rumor who wanted a sequel to be made. I just checked a few websites the other day to what Disney and Pixar had planned in the next couple of years. This title was nowhere in sight.

I was watching this today and it occurred to me just how frightening Gothel really is. Her emotional manipulation of Rapunzel sends chills up my spine.

Seriously. Between Gothel and Hans from Frozen, it seems to me that Disney is getting much less campy and much more realistic with their villains.

I agree with you, Jupiter!
And yes... Butters... Gothel is the first villain since Scar to truly be scary/creepy to me. Though I love me some villains... I'm glad Disney is taking the time to make them unique and less "campy" as Jupiter put it!

Some excellent points were made here. Tangled was wrapped up pretty tightly so I don't see them successfully going anywhere with a sequel and sincerely hope they don't try. While Pixar has been doing a lot better job with their sequels than I've given them the faith to do I am concerned they'll end up down the same road with them as Disney went. Monsters U was already kind of a step in that direction, not the best choice in my opinion when that was an original film that was left quite open for continuation.
As for Gothal I agree that she had substance and am very glad to see Disney returning to the more in depth and realistic villains they'd once done in their classics like Scar.

So a few weeks ago I was listening to an interview with legendary Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter. While the interviewer was gushing about Frozen, Baxter made an interesting point. He commented that as much as he enjoyed Frozen, he likes Tangled better. Music to my own ears. With all the well deserved hype that Frozen is getting, I'm glad that some people are pointing out that Tangled is a great film in its own right.
And in fact, after The Princess and the Frog was a box office disappointment, Disney stopped production on The Snow Queen. It was the success of Tangled that helped put it back in production.
