I know this is quite early but I figured it would be okay to state it. Disney has announced that they're going to be releasing this film in in theatres of 2011 for a special 20th Anniversary edition. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I believe this is the first non-computer generated film that will be featured in theatres. Excutives of the studio and film have all stated their excitment on giving audiences a new perspective of this enchanting film. Word on the street is this is so big for the company it will be one of their largest annual events for film in general of 2011. This among other projects relating to this film coming up in the next couple of years is sure to gain a lot of attention if not finacial success.
What do you guys think of this?

I don't care much about the 3-Dness. I really don't about that part, but I like the idea of showing it in theatres for the 20th anniversary. It would be fun to see, but at the same time, if I don't see it, it won't be the end of the world.

I'd love to see Beauty and The Beast in the cinemas again but I don't really want to see it in 3D since I seem to get headaches everytime I've watched anything in 3D.
I'm really looking forward to owning this film on DVD since the DVD I bought several years ago doesn't actually work.

I am extremely excited about this. From what I've seen, thankfully, Disney (& Pixar) aren't going down the gimmicky pop out of the screen 3D, but moreso enhancing the overall picture quality which is what I saw when I recently went to see the re-released Toy Story.
I wish the company still re-released their films annually to be quite honest, seeing Toy Story again, which was my fist cinema experience as a kid brought back so many memories.

I agree with everybody else. I'm so thrilled to see this film in the cinema again. I saw it when I was 3 but I find all my favorite Disney films so much more enchanting and meaningful as an adult. So view it on the big-screen with mature eyes will be a treat. There's just something about the cinema in general that I can't quite put my finger on. The best way to describe it is the enviroment of the Movie theatre really brings you into the story full-throttle. And it's very special indeed to make it on the 20th Anniversary. In my opinion I think this was the finest Disney film ever made so it definetley deserves the treatment it's getting. But I also agree with the 3-D comments. I'm not to crazy for it even though there's nothing wrong with it. However I'm hoping since it's 2-D already it will just enhance the footage as opposed to squandering it with over-the-top effects. I also wish Disney would re-release their animated classics into regular theatres again. I'm actually hoping if Disney finds success with this they're re-release The Lion King. I admit I'm biased because that is my all-time favorie film so to see it any format at the cinema would feel incredible! But I maybe pushing the envelpoe too much since that film was great but excellent like BatB. So even if this is the only Disney film re-released for an annual event I'll still be content. And like I said considering just how exrodinary this film was made, it deserves the big-screen more then anything else. By the way does anybody know when the Diamond Edition of the DVD or Blue-ray will be available? I'm sure it will most likely be in October but I can't say for certain. Also on a side note for those who don't know, the National Tour of the Broadway production will be traveling in America next year! So fans of the film, check out the touring schedule. Since Disney is planning so much around this film in the next couple of years there's another bit of news in regards to BatB. But I'm not sure if I should state it. For one I don'y know if it belongs on this thread. Secondly, I'm kind of scared of what the reaction will be. What you guys think? Should I just come out and say it?

Yeah I know! ^^ My VHS got lost many years ago but I never had a chance to purchase the DVD. So I'm thrilled for the new release. I miss not having my "2nd Golden Disney era" collection complete. And if it's coming in spring then that's much sooner then I anticipated. But it makes me all the excited. Thanks for website reccomendation Elliot!
Okay people as for my other big news in regards to BatB. Please don't get upset with me, I'm just sending the message. Here it goes- Alan Menken has confirmed that Disney will be creating a live-action adapation of the film. It will based more on the musical script and score. As of right now there is no release date information because it is still in the development process.

No probs Silver (Y)
And that doesn't suprise me to be quite honest about the live action adaptation, it could probably work. What with the many film adaptations of stage musicals (Footloose which is coming soon is not a remake but an adaptation of the stage play and a few others)
I think I've heard this news before but I'd blocked it out haha I'm unsure but I've heard something similar to this elsewhere, it should be interesting. Either way, none will top the original animated masterpiece as I'm sure we all agree.

I know it's been done with some stage versions, but I would love to see if they could bring a realistic touch to the live version. Instead of seeing the Beast and Lumiere in their puppet costumes, I mean.

I have mixed feelings about it too. On the one hand BatB is arguably considered Disney's most critically-acclaimed and beloved film ever made and still the only animated film to recieve an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. So to tamper with such a classic piece is more then just risky. It's almost asking for the people to infuriated with you're decision-making. Even if the production goes well you better believe there's people out there who will be so nit-picky, one subtle change can irriate them. It's kind of like throwing yourself inbetween a rock and a bolder. No I'm not one of those people. (I acutally love the musical more then the film) However, since the film was so well-made to begin with, to recreate it brings in some serious questions.
On the other hand. If any Disney film could be plausibly made to fit into live-action format this is the first that comes to mind. And it's one of those cases where you wonder "if this was a live-action' what would the scenery be like? Who could play the cast? How could the story be expanded to better reflect the character's motives? So basic curiosity gives way to what would happen if this beloved story had real dimensions and endless space. You'd think that's why the musical was created in the first place. But theatre itself has so many limitations. In film there's a liberty of creative aspects as well as sometime a stronger intake of emotions & passion. So maybe that is why the Disney company wants to venture back to the film's roots but to explore in a closer perspective. (Like Spellwovensaid- something more realistic)

I'm really curious how they're differing it from a musical that's a film and how it's a live-version of Beauty and the Beast.

The Diamond Edition is scheduled for a Spring 2010 release according to ultimatedisney.com who are a really reliable site for upcoming Disney releases. Interesting. On the Snow White blu-ray Disney promoted Dumbo for a spring 2010 release with no mention whatsoever of Beauty and the Beast. With a 3-D release coming in 2011, I'll be surprised if we see Beauty and the Beast again until late 2011. I don't see Disney releasing a film on blu-ray only to put it in theaters a few months later. The live action version doesn't surprise me at all. There is a history of some very successful musicals becoming popular live action films, and the story itself (not just Disney's version) has been retold many times in many different ways.
