www.ultimatedisney.com/comingsoon.htmlThe link to where it's revealed (find it down the bottom) along with a supposed Great Mouse Detective Special Edition and the long awaited The Black Cauldron special edition, and the Diamond editions of Fantasia & Fantasia 2000. I hope it is next year and not 2011 :/

I'll be surprised if Disney releases this anytime next year. For starters, they rarely release two of the classics within weeks of each other, which is what would be the case if they release Beauty and the Beast next spring. Second, if they're hoping to drive audiences into the theaters to see Beauty and the Beast in 3-D, then it makes little sense to release the movie for the home market before the theatrical re-release. Third, there's not a word about it on the Snow White blu-ray. I can't see Disney releasing this next springtime and not saying a single word about it on the major release preceding a release next spring.
I'm not worried about the 3-D release. I think it's going to be the added depth issue that we saw with the recent Toy Story releases. Working for Peanuts, an old animated short starring Chip and Dale with Donald Duck was originally screened in theaters in 3-D back in the 1950s. It looked just fine (it was shown with Meet the Robinsons in 3-D).

The Diamond Edition is scheduled for a Spring 2010 release according to ultimatedisney.com who are a really reliable site for upcoming Disney releases. Interesting. On the Snow White blu-ray Disney promoted Dumbo for a spring 2010 release with no mention whatsoever of Beauty and the Beast. With a 3-D release coming in 2011, I'll be surprised if we see Beauty and the Beast again until late 2011. I don't see Disney releasing a film on blu-ray only to put it in theaters a few months later. Dumbo? Again?

This time it's a 2 disc release with all the bells and whistles that we've come to expect when Disney releases one of the classics.

I think she means the film has just come way sooner then expected. I myself thought it would right along with Cinderella or Bambi. But anyway that's getting off track.
While Disney has yet to announce the release date of the Blue-ray & DVD, it has been confirmed it will be released in the Spring of 2010 just like Elliot said. By the way Elliot thanks for the link. That website is pretty reliable. Disney has also the reson they are releasing the DVD before the 3-D Motion Picture is because they want more "Hype and Excitment" for their annual event. No doubt they want it to be a gigantic fincial success. So by releasing it before the 3-D film I guess they wanto to remind audiences of how spectacular this film is. And who knows maybe the 3-D film is a marketing ploy in itself. Maybe it's preparing to have audiences gain hype and interest in the Live-Action adaptation. Chronologically it's starting to make sense.

Very good point Silver. It's all building anticipation, that makes sense, from a marketing perspective in particular.

I don't see Disney releasing a film on blu-ray only to put it in theaters a few months later. I just purchased my Snow White Special Edition and there's a picture of Beauty and the Beast on Blu ray in an insert, advertised as being Autumn 2010! Very excited! =D

Yeah, I stumbled across that on my Snow White blu-ray. I will be very surprised if the 3-D version is a success. While the movie itself is fine, I think a lot of people are going to skip the theatrical 3-D release because they just bought the movie a few months earlier.

As far as I know there hasn't been a release date for the 3-D event. For all we know they could end up releasing it in the summer or Holiday season of 2011. If the DVD and Blue-ray is released in October of 2010 I can still see plenty of people flocking to the cinema just to catch this film on the big-screen. Let alone in a new visionary format.

I think that most people won't realize that it's "new and exciting" so they'll just stick with their recently purchased copy. Fans like us will know the difference and probably not care, but I think the average person will skip their local cinema to view a movie they just bought a month or so earlier. It makes more sense to release the 3-D version first and then release the blu-ray/DVD.

Though I love Disney with all my heart I doubt I attend any of the 3-D showings. I think the films are beautiful as is and I don't need to shove out 30 dollars to see one in shiny, new 3D. Of course if Disney ever decided to include 3-D glasses with the Blu-ray/DVDs then I've give it a go. Maybe it's just me but I find all this 3-D stuff a little unnecessary. I enjoy it from time to time but it's like a novelty item. It doesn't need to be brought into everything. That's what I think anyway *shrugs* BTW I'm jealous of all of you who have The Snow White blu-ray/DVD. I have to wait until Christmas for my mom to let me watch mine

BRP- I guess we'll find out after it premires if it was a good idea or not finacially and critically to release it after the Blue-Ray. But either way I will definetley buy the DVD and see it in the Cinema. Some call that a waste of money which is understandable. But I guess that would clarify me as being obesseed and passsionate about certain Disney films.

But I guess that would clarify me as being obesseed and passsionate about certain Disney films. Though I understand what you are saying, and really identify with you, I have to say I put my need for food above 3D Disney movies I already have on normal format. I'm partial to food. EDITI take that back. I starve before I'd miss the chance to see The Lion King in 3-D or any other kooky format. I have a problem XD

Oh no Alice. I don't spend money recklessly. (hehe) I have my own budget too. But since I do work hard as I imagine everybody else does also I feel I'm entitled to splurge. And when it comes to films whether in the Cinema or on DVD (especially Disney films) it's one of my leisure formats. So personally I don't have a problem if I do both in the case of this film. And if my favorite film- The Lion King does the exact same medium of marketing, you can bet I'll do it all over again. By the way Alice. Did you hear they're going to be making a Live Action adaptation of this film? What do you think of that?
