I finally got to see this today. I really enjoyed it. One thing that I really liked: when Robert mentioned that he had a girlfriend, I thought she was going to be a real shrew. It was a pleasant surprise that Nancy was really nice. On Prince Edward: I adored him. I was rooting for him throughout the movie, even though I knew it was hopeless. He was a little full of himself, but also pretty clueless. I was sad that he didn't get Giselle, but happy when he ended up with Nancy. (I'd like to see more of their story)

I finally got to see this today. I really enjoyed it. One thing that I really liked: when Robert mentioned that he had a girlfriend, I thought she was going to be a real shrew. It was a pleasant surprise that Nancy was really nice. Err not again with this stupid spoiler tag! Sorry folks, spoiler ahead watch out. On Prince Edward: I adored him. I was rooting for him throughout the movie, even though I knew it was hopeless. He was a little full of himself, but also pretty clueless. I was sad that he didn't get Giselle, but happy when he ended up with Nancy. (I'd like to see more of their story) I agree completely with everything here. I was also wondering if Nancy was a shrew because you always see that in movies, so it was a pleasant surprise that she was nice and was so easily willing to forgive and forget when she got the flowers from Giselle's doves. Err not again with this stupid spoiler tag! Sorry folks, spoiler ahead watch out. Although unlike you I was rooting for Robert I also did not want Edward nor Nancy to end up alone so I also rooted for something good to happen to them. So I was glad at the dance when the men were asked to switch partners and Edward and Nancy danced together. I knew they were going to end up with each other.

Having Edward and Nancy find each other was a key part in what made the ending work. As we are introduced to each character, they are sympathetic in our eyes. Nancy was not, as so many people have rightly pointed out, an obstacle in the way of Robert ending up with Giselle. Instead, she was a kind person who did truly care for Robert(and Morgan).
And Edward is set up as the destined hero of the story from the beginning. In showing him as a genuinely nice, if clueless, guy who truly does care for Giselle, it would have felt wrong, especially in a Disney movie, to leave him out in the cold.
To me, the key here is that the story did not leave two good people out in the cold after their significant other(at the start) ended up with someone else. I think many of us would have a much different taste in our mouths if Edward, after all that he had gone through to rescue Giselle ends up alone. Likewise, Nancy lost Robert because of Robert's kindness to Giselle by taking her in. They each deserved and had earned a happy ending.

It's so nice to read all of these fantastic reviews! I was so happy that this movie was so succsessful. Since, as we all know, Disney hasn't been at it's best lately.
Anyway, I'll post a quick little review, since most of you have already said exactly what I was planning to.
I thought the movie was absolutely fantastic! I wouldn't say I went in there with high expectations, but I did go in expecting a good movie. I try not to critisize movies too harshly, or nit-pick them, because I know they're meant to be entertainment, and nothing's perfect.
But once the movie let out, I was blown away. I felt like it was sure to become a future Disney classic. Which is refreshing to say. The last Disney movie I saw that was really worth watching was Meet the Robinsons. I swear I had a tear in my eye when that Walt quote came up at the end!
Anyway, back to Enchanted. I thought the beginning was just adorable! The animation was wonderfully done, and True Love's Kiss was just adorable and romantic! It reminded me so much of those classic Disney fairy tales I love so much. But it was nice they added some humor to it, and poked fun at themselves with that line from Prince Edward "we shall be married in the morning!" ;]
Amy Adam's approach to her charatcer was amazing! She embodied the spirit of the classic Disney princesses perfectly. Every scene James Mardsen was in cracked me up. I loved how he referred to everyone as "peasents". And of course, my favorite, Patrick Dempsey. *squee* First let me say, he is gorgeous! Secondly, his preformance was wonderful! I loved how he was so serious in the beginning, but the more and more he got to know Giselle he began to sort of wear his heart on his sleeve.
All in all, the movie was, in my opinion, a Disney masterpiece! It's nice to see that Disney can still capture that special magic we love so much. Also nice to see a fresh, new Disney love story. I'm hoping to see more movies of this quality in the future. But for now, I'll have to make a few more trips to the movie theater to watch Enchanted again and again until it's released on DVD. ;]

Thanks Shenzi. And yeah, I guess you could say I'm new, I had an account on here a while ago (Disney Magic) then I deleted it, made this account, then life got crazy as it tends to and I stopped posting for a while. But now I'm back, so thank you for the welcome. :]

I was searching through a few other film websites to see what the overall opionion was from other film goers for Enchanted. I'm thrilled Disney is finally recieving positive recognition from an audience as a whole, and not just Disney fans alone. (Which is what I've been seeing for months) Although there is something I highly disagree with that some audience members have mentioned. It's been said that some believe Patrick Dempsey was miscast because he was boring. I disagree very much so. I think Patrick portrayed Robert wonderfully. His character is supposed to be stiff, cynical, and the voice of reason. He represents the opposite of Edward so the love triangle becomes more intrigueing. If Patrick had outshined Amy, James or Susan, then the producers would have made a terrible decision for choosing those actors to to portray the characters. The fairy-tale characters are meant to be larger-then-life and entertaining because they have more freedom. Patrick had to be aggitated, patient, and wing in a few good-liners to keep his character in check of realism. Playing a static character is a difficut job, and I thought Patrick followed through without faltering to maintain his likability.

my aunt just saw this movie with my kid cousin and she and I quote said "Enchanted is now my favorite movie I can see why you saw it more than once".
I think its definitely Disney's greatest work in a long while.

I think its definitely Disney's greatest work in a long while. No arguements there! I've actually seen this film five times already. I don't know why, but this is simply one of those films I can't tire of. It makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Just a great film to see with friends and family. Can't wait for the DVD, but I'll have to wait til spring.

Yeah I have seen it twice and was about to see it a third time because my aunt wanted to invite me but the weather was bad and then they decided to go yesterday at the last minute. But this movie truly made me feel like a little kid going to see the Lion King again, like Disney went back in time to its glory days when it was known for all its magical classics like Beauty and the Beast and Jungle Book. When I first saw this it was like none of these crappy sequels existed anymore, it was just good old Disney doing what it does best. A modern Princess classic in the making. I can't wait for the DVD.

It's been said that some believe Patrick Dempsey was miscast because he was boring. I disagree very much so. I think Patrick portrayed Robert wonderfully. His character is supposed to be stiff, cynical, and the voice of reason. I think you're right on. In order for the film's central theme to work, a cynic was absolutely necessary. I don't want this to sound wrong, but I'm not so sure that Robert really loved Nancy. He cared for her, but I'm not sure he really believed in love anymore. In order for Giselle to work, she had to melt his heart and help him believe in love. I think the real key to this film is how it emphasizes that true love does exist. It is very real. For that to come across, a cynic had given up on true love needed to see that it did exist and could be found. Giselle's romantic idealism worked because it contrasted wonderfully with Robert's cynicism.

I agree with you completely I felt no passion between Robert and Nancy. Robert was still stuck on his wife who walked out on him and no longer believed in love. To the point even where he discouraged fairy tales from his daughter. I think Nancy may have come in too soon and it took Giselle's fairy tale origin and her passion for true love to open his eyes.

When Giselle was telling...what's-her-face...the kid...about Little Red Riding Hood, did anyone else think of No Rest for the Wicked? Just me?

I've never heard of that site before, but I found the scene in question priceless. It did remind a bit of the film Hoodwinked, a fractured fairy tale version of Little Red Riding Hood.
