*Warning, MAJOR spoilers appear below* Highlight at your own caution if you haven't seen the movie yet. James Marsden(the actor who plays Edward) gave an interview in which he made an interesting point. He said that more than anything Edward is in love with the idea of being in love. I'm not sure if arrogant is quite the right word for Edward. While parts of it hold, he is not a stuck up, selfish jerk. He was kind to others, and saving the peasants from the foul iron beast was a noble, if not quite accurate, gesture. He truly cared for Giselle, and it was more important to him that she live than that he end up with her, specifically.
So, while I also feel bad that he didn't get Giselle, it's not like he had a sad ending. In fact, Disney cut a song from the film called Enchanted, and it was sung by James Marsden and Idina Menzel(Nancy). It should be on the DVD. The thing for me is that the film was clearly heading towards Giselle ending up with Robert, so I was very glad that Edward and Nancy weren't left out in the cold.
I really think Nancy very much wanted the idealized world of Andalasia(I love how she destroyed her cell phone). Note how impressed she was with the idea of going to the ball and the real flowers(as opposed to the e-cards). The key too was how much she liked Edward's "hopeless" romanticism. She felt bad for her lost love, yet knew that Robert wasn't hers. It was selflessness on her part as well that allowed Giselle to live because Robert looked at her before the fateful kiss. As I've said earlier, my biggest concern was that Prince Edward would get the shaft, which he didn't. He was thrilled to be with Nancy, and equally as important, she was thrilled to be with him.
The interesting point here is how the ideas of romance worked. Nancy wanted the storybook romance, and while Giselle loved the storybook idea, the more she became part of our world, the more I think she saw how she could help people out because of her idealism(Mr. and Mrs. Banks). In the end, each heroine got her perfect ending. Giselle with the Sleeping Beauty/Snow White true love's kiss from her title song and Nancy with the Cinderella ending of the perfect fit.

The Golden Globe Nominations are in. And Enchanted has recieved two! Amy Adams has been nominated for leading actress in a musical, and the song "That's How You Know" is nominated for Best Songin a film. I'm so happy it recieved the nominations it has. Each are very worthy. But part of me is still a little down about the film itself not recieving one. But at the same time I know it was tough year in the Comedy and Musical catagory. And each of the films that are nominated were more then deserving for their position. At least there's still something to celebrate for. I'm still very pleased.

BRP- That's true. I agree that Prince Edward isn't arrogent. He is self confident and wants to help everyone (focusing on Giselle). And I think the couples both fit more together the way they ended up. Actually.. I think Prince Edward and Nancy fit better together then Giselle and Robert. All in all, I am glad that they ALL lived happily ever after. Silver- That's great! I am so glad that they got a nomination for something. I don't know what their compition is, but no matter what it is, I am sad that the movie itself didn't get a nomination nor did the music/composers get a nomination.

Brair Rose's Prince I agree that Prince Edward was not selfish at all just a bit of a half a brain ditz, but he is most of what had my friend and I laughing so its a good thing. He was definitely noble and kind especially when his kiss did not revive her and he nobly accepted that and stepped back giving the honor to Robert. That was my favorite Edward moment as it proved that he was a good and unselfish person.

On the subject of Edward I think he's just blissfully unware of that some of his action are a bit conceited or stuck up. He's very much like a child where he's kind and willing to help people doesn't realize what he's saying can hurt other people or be considered rude and stuck up . Amy Adams is competing against Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray, Helena Bonham Carter from Sweeney Todd, Marion Cotillard from La Vie En Rose, and Ellen Page, Juno. The problem is I've only seen Hairspray and Enchanted so I can't say that I think Adams will win it, but out of those two I think she has a very high chance of winning it.

Although I enjoyed Nikki's performance in Hairspray, I think Amy had a better overall acting of her character - a Disney princess. There were high expectations for her, and I believe she exceeded them. I think where this discussion is going in regards to Giselle, Edward, Robert, and Nancy. Another message that I found in this movie that I loved was the fact that you don't have to be a Princess, or marry a prince, to have a happy ending. Giselle was never really a princess, although she considered herself one, and didn't end up as one. Regardless, she still was able to find a "normal", "peasant" man and be happy. Rather the opposite of Sleeping Beauty, I think.

Yeah that was another great twist that I loved, in all the classics it always had to be a Prince but true love is found in many other men not just princes. Thats why I was so glad that Giselle did not end up with the Prince, I was rooting for her and Robert the whole time ever since the moment he looked at her like she was cute as she fell asleep on the couch.

Just got back from seeing this film and my god - it was an amazing experience. It was like being 5 again and going to see The Lion King and Aladdin at the cinema again. Just everything about the stroy was so perfect and so reminiscient of the old films. The hand drawn animation at the start was so lucious and had so much warmth and depth to it and then when Giselle came to the 'real world' it still felt animated because of how amazingly well each actor played their part. And can I just say Susan Sarandon was so unbelievably perfect for the role of Narissa. Her vocal work was fantastic and when she came to the real world I loved how exaggerated every movement of hers was. I also never realised how much her voice was like Eleanor Audley's :S That's all I could think when she was onscreen but I'd like to ask the question - why has she not played a disney villain before!?!? I also loved Amy Adams as Giselle - she played the part so perfectly. I loved how emotional she was and the rollercoaster she went on throught the course of the film, discovering new emotions. And Patrick Dempsey also surprised me as I don't usually like him much but I really sympathised with him in the course of the film. Timothy Spall was ace as ever although I love him in everything he does anyway. And also James Marsden he was perfect as the stereotypical Prince. And what you guys are saying - I don't think he was a stuck up snob kinda guy either it was just the way he was made basically and he knew no better but in the real world surrounded by normal people, he probably could have come across like it I also loved the music of the film. They were in perfect vein with disney songs in general and So Close is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a good long while and Jon McLaughlin's performance was breathtaking. Definitely up there with the best disney love songs. I also loved the little touches they had throughout like having Jodi Benson, Judy Kuhn and Paige O'Hara in it and Part Of Your World playing and Beauty and The Beast. It was just one of those films where you come out feeling really warm inside And it's also restored my faith in Disney as a company and film makers as a whole. Love it love it love it

But Prince Phillip didn't know that Briar Rose was Princess Aurora, he was fully prepared to marry a peasant, but I agree that its nice that for once they're both not royalty.
Also when I said the prince was stuck up I guess that wasn't the right word, but he's cofident and prideful but he doesn't understand why he shouldn't be or how that could be a bad thing.

Yeah, On youtube I saw an interview with Alan Manken and he was saying how he intergrated old Disney songs like Some Day My Prince Will Come and such and add a modern flare. You can definitely see those in the songs

I've seen the trailer and haven't had the chance to go see it yet but it looks amazing, really want to watch it. It's probably going to be our family Christmas movie.
