Jim Henson is a co producer on this, so this could be promising guys!!! This movie is based on Judith Voirst's 1972 novelization of the same name. It tells the tale of Alexander and how his day just progressively gets worst. And when he tells his upbeat family, how they proceed to have bad days as well. This movie just goes to prove that anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn't had one. It has been given a release date of October 10th, 2014. Any opinions? It sounds really cute to me.

The film is being produced by Lisa Henson who is the daughter of Jim Henson, who passed away many years ago. I've never read the book, but I understand that it's quite popular.

Wikipedia just stated Jim Henson productions. >.< Sorry... First of all Wikipedia is not the 100% most trustworthy source but in this case the error was in your understanding Arielle. Jim Henson productions and Jim Henson himself are not the same. Not anymore since as stated the man himself is deceased. The current chairmen of Jim Henson productions is none other than Brian Henson, his son who is currently head judge on the new syfy reality show 'Jim Henson's Creature Shop'. There is actually a short animated film of this story made years ago, in childhood it was one of my favorites to rent when my father would take me to my favorite rental place which had a play area with a slide. It went out of business and became a carpet place years ago and to my knowledge still is today. The animation is straight from the book and tells the story just as it's written. This project has my interest as I assume they'll be putting their own flavors into it.

Well...that was a thing. It doesn't look amazing, but it doesn't really look *bad* either...just really, really average. It doesn't seem to follow the plot of the book either, from what I remember, but third grade was a long time ago.

Hmm yeah I'm afraid I've got to go with Butterscotch on this. I can't say I'm real impressed by this trailer.
It certainly doesn't use the events of the book that are vaguely in my memory, in fact it seems to be adding a lot more complexity to the plot, very much a 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' vibe. Though whether or not you remember the story it's obviously a pretty simple book so I suppose there is no other way of making a full length film of it. However I didn't find the humor that was suggested by this trailer necessarily the most tasteful and can't even say for sure if it's Steve Carell. Though I can't say I'm a fan anyway (though I can tolerate him sometimes) I am honestly not sure how I feel about him in this film. Even my mother will tell you that he can go either way and her nonsensical humor tolerance is higher than mine. In addition in this sole two and a half minutes of the film I didn't feel like he and Jennifer Garner were a good match but her I do like.
Though I've got to admit the teacher yelling at the brother "Lets go Wreck-it-Ralph!", I enjoyed that. XD
I've learned my lesson about declaring a film to be stupid solely based on the trailer and fully expect the possibility that this film could pleasantly surprise me as many have but it didn't exactly make the best first impression on me. Which means it will likely take me longer and possibly some positive reviews from peers to watch.
Honestly I'm overall unsure exactly how I feel about this film but so far it's nothing real positive. :/

I probably won't go to theaters to see it. But I'll probably rent it.

Agreed, I can't see myself spending money on the theater for this film, especially with today's theater prices.

There was an updated commercial on TV for this last night. I have to admit that this looks super cute so far. I will continue saying this will be a rental for me. But I will most definitely be seeing it. I'm actually quite excited!

Meh, the commercials made me even less excited and I was already underwhelmed. It doesn't look *bad* to me, it just looks average.

Eh yeah, the trailer for this film was featured in Guardians of the Galaxy when my friends and I went a few weeks ago and then I viewed it again just now in this thread and my opinion hasn't changed. I've got to stick with Butterscotch, I'm not real impressed. There are small suggestions of some tasteless humor in the trailer including from Steve Carell which I hadn't noticed until the viewing just now. So if anything I'm less impressed. Though I'll say I appreciate the line: "I think you just gotta have the bad days so you can appreciate the good days even more." Good message there which I don't remember in the book.
