I recall several of the events which made Alexander's day so terrible (his alone, not the whole family as it seems the film is doing) but as a whole I don't remember the book either. Though I remember the last line of it clear as day: "Mom says some days are like that, even in Australia." (He'd wanted to run away to Australia where he didn't think bad days existed.)

Sorry for the double post but I mentioned this at the beginning of the thread, the animated film of the original book which is completely faithful down to the animation itself (The only difference is that it's in color, the book is not): www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8zT9w0H3LcThis was my favorite video to rent when my dad would take me to my favorite rental place as a child. The place doesn't exist anymore, it was converted to a carpet place years ago and I believe still is today. It was the only video rental place around here that ever had a play place with a slide. Anyway I hadn't remembered the film having music but watching it just now the events instantly returned to my memory. Among the events which made up his horrible day were: *He woke up with gum in his hair *He tripped over his skateboard when he got up *He was the only one who didn't get a prize in his cereal box *His mom forgot his dessert in his lunch *He was the only one who had a cavity when the three brothers went to the dentist for a check up. *He got into a fight with one of his older brothers for calling him a name and was the only one who got in trouble. *He was forced to get plain white shoes at the shoe store because all the cool colors weren't in his size. In his opinion plain white shoes sucked. There was also no baby in the family as shown in this new film's trailer, just three brothers with Alexander as the youngest. I'd actually thought there was a baby who was involved in Alexander's bad luck in his dad's office but my memory lied to me. This new film is certainly taking it in a new direction, the lead character is even significantly older than in the book and thus so are the brothers. In the book he's somewhere from the 1st to the 3rd grade as his class was shown coloring in the video. The boy in the new film is like in middle school. As I pointed out before they seem to be aiming to give it a 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' feel except the humor is suggested to be far more tasteless.
