With no word for so long. I'm not suprised. Sad but not the least in shock.

I feel bad for those fans who really wanted to see this film on the big screen either for the first time or again. But given the lackluster box office results of the preceding 3-D remasters, this doesn't surprise me.

I am now officially depressed!!!!! I cannot believe they would cancel the Little Mermaid. It was always my dream to see it on the big screen.

For those who either live in southern California or will be there from September 20-October 13, 2013, Disney will be showing The Little Mermaid in 3-D at their El Capitan Theatre.

I heard somewhere yesterday that they're releasing a Blu-Ray version of The Little Mermaid at the beginning of October. I don't know if that release will involve a 3D version, though.

According to Amazon.com, the 3-D blu-ray release will include a digital copy and a digital copy of the music from the film.

This just made me think of something: Are they planning any re-releases of the sequels as well? While I saw The Little Mermaid 2 when it came out, I didn't get a copy of the DVD, and I haven't seen the prequel at all yet. If they're planning re-releases of these, I might look into getting them.

Arielle- Here's hoping Disney will change their mind. Initially Disney wasn't going to re-release Beauty and the Beast for everybody to see.
One Michigan girl was also really eager to see in in high definition and hear it in surround sound on the big screen as well.

Silver, maybe we should start a petition to have Disney re-release it. I grew up watching that movie... I need to see it on the big screen. It will make my childhood complete!

What changed Disney's mind on the 3-D release of Beauty and the Beast was the massive success ($94 million) of The Lion King's 3-D release. Since Finding Nemo 3-D and Monsters, Inc. 3-D also had poor results, Disney didn't want to make the investment to release The Little Mermaid in 3-D theatrically.
I wonder if part of Beauty and the Beast's 3-D struggles were the result of the film being easily available on blu-ray at the time of the 3-D release. Audiences may well have wondered why they should pay the $35-40 to take a family of 4 to the movies to see a movie that they may well have already owned on blu-ray.

Arielle- Let's make sure our petition says "Release The Little Mermaid in regular format!" So for all of the fans who just want to see it on the big screen without paying for sun-glasses they really don't want to wear.

NOOOOOOOOO! I was really looking forward to seeing this in theatres! It's my favourite movie... *sigh* I guess I'll just have to watch my DVD instead.
