This just made me think of something: Are they planning any re-releases of the sequels as well? While I saw The Little Mermaid 2 when it came out, I didn't get a copy of the DVD, and I haven't seen the prequel at all yet. If they're planning re-releases of these, I might look into getting them. While I can't find a release date for the sequels, I think it will happen. Cinderella and The Lion King also eventually saw their sequels re-released on blu-ray. The Lion King sequels each received separate releases and could also be purchased with the original classic in a box set. The box set with all 3 films was not available when the original theatrical classic was released on blu-ray.

Thanks. I'm one of the few people left on the planet that doesn't have a blu-ray player, so if I decide to get the sequels, it would have to be on DVD.

I plan on purchasing a Blu-Ray player on Black Friday this year! Kind of excited to see what all the hype is about!
And I'm all for it, Silver. I'd much rather see it in regular format than in 3D anyway.

Arielle- I really think Mermaid fans should consider this. Clearly Disney has no desire to do this on their own. I wish they would have just realized that the reason why The Lion King was successful because Cinema they gave it an equeal amount of 3-D and regular format showtimes. If they had done this with Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc, they would have made so much more money at the Box Office. Then Mermaid wouldn't have had to have been scrapped.

Apparently, the 3-D release has been scrapped, but Disney is still screening TLM in select theaters starting September 20th. They're inviting people to bring their iPads(and they specifically mentioned Apple iPads) for their Second Screen Live experience. I'm not sure what to make of this, nor can I tell where to see which theaters are screening this. Below is the link advertising this. disneysecondscreenlive.com

In my experience. "Select Theatres" has always been code for screenings of a film in either New York City or Los Angeles. Not helpful to me.

This whole concept is rather strange. I get the appeal of their Second Screen app, but it's not something I'd like to experience in a crowded movie theater.

That...sounds really distracting. Someone briefly opening their phone to check the time can be distracting as it is, but people continually using smartphones/tablets? In a dark, crowded theater? That sounds really annoying.
edit: yeah, I watched the video and that seems really distracting :/

Just read where select theaters doesn't even begin to describe this. A total of 16 theaters in the U.S. will have this promotional stunt.

Typical. This will not be happening at any theatre close by. I shouldn't be surpirsed but I'm so sad anyway.

I know!!! They need to do a big release in theatre... Even if it is briefly!!! I'd take the regular old version... I don't need 3D... Or technology.... To enjoy my childhood favorite movie!

Arielle and Sarah- Disney and other major studios are so concerned with staying up-to-date with technology as well as making money they don't realize the obvious.
People love the old fashioned viewing experience.
The Lion King was a success with it's re-release not because of the 3-D format premeire. It's because they had enough theatres to supply regular format viewings. Beauty and the Beast did not even make half the amount at the Box office as there were hardly any Cinema's showing a regular format of that film.

Well, the 3D project might have been scrapped, but it looks like we're still getting this. I say it's good news for those of us who were at least looking for the sequels.
