SO I unknowingly read the book that the movie is based on. The book was good. It's a simple read but pretty good story, and based on the preview I really don't think that there looks to be a huge break from that. The settings gotta change the characters a bit but I still seems mostly the same. I think its going to be a really amazing movie and I'm uber excited.

Or something different?

She has to be referring to the story by E.D Baker since it says on Wikipidia this films was "loosely" based on that specific source.
I'm starting to feel a little anxious again after recently viewing "UP" and loving it. We've seen through out the years whenever Pixar releases a great film early in the year and then a 2-D film comes out it bombs critcally and finnacially. This is usually becuase the 2-D film lacks substance and organized construction. My fear is this wil be another one of those scanarios. They only thing that keeps me hopeful at this point is John Lasseter is the executive producer. Which is a tad ironic because he's also the ep on UP! Wouldn't it be interesting if these two films end up both being nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature? But I'd rather have that and still have Pixar win as opposed to PatF just be another horrible film. My fingers are more tighly crossed the ever!

hmm I REALLY hope that dosn't happen. I have such high hopes for this film! This is the great return to 2-D animation and if the movie is no good then it could mean the end for 2-D! I love 3-D and all, but i realy love 2-D! come on the princess and the frog, make some magic!

Unfortunately, I have to say that the trailer I saw for this while I was seeing Up kind of let me down. It didn't hook me, and the script, so far, doesn't seem very compelling. I'm definitely still excited for this movie, mainly because it is 2d, but I really hope the trailer doesn't represent the whole movie.

In short, I do not think that Lasseter would let this movie get released if he felt it was a poor film. He has too much respect for what the words "Walt Disney Feature Animation" mean. I'm hopeful that this film will be just fine.

And yes I agree the story in general isn't that deep or mind-bending. But this was deliberate. If you'd like some details on the summery be sure to check out the Wikipedia page. Maybe that will interest you more. And I'm finallly beginning to understand why they used a mixed-race prince as oppsed to a African-American. But it still would have been nice if they had created him.

Silver, what do you mean " if they had created him" ? Did they take him from a different story or movie? Or did you mean somthing else? And yes, the trailer dosn't revele much, but its not close enough to the date for us to expect disney to revele to much info. I to hope that a lot more happens then whats in the trailer.

I think for a start, its way too early to be revealing too much plot at this moment in time, they're still pretty much teaser trailers which, as we're in June and its expected October/November time, is the perfect marketing tool in hooking peoples interests. I really wouldn't make too many assumptions as of yet and just appreciate the GLORY that is 2D animation again The shot of the Croc, etc in the swamp looks stunning.
