I stated in another post there's only four other Disney animated leading men that come from another ethnic backround. They include Aladdin who is Arabic, Shang who is Chinese, Kuzco who is of Inca hertitage, and Kenai who is Native American. So if they had created an African-American as the prince he would have been the first as well as another conrtibution to the few diverse characters in the Royal Disney caliber. So on that note I understand why many people are upset about that. But as I was saying from the summery that was given it's become understandable why Disney went the route they did. If you would like more details, I can PM you if you want so you can have a better understanding of what I'm talking about.

The poor Disney company just can't seem to please anybody anymore. Yet another controversey has just started to get people screaming again. More forums and random news articles are now bashing the crew for placing the setting in New Orleans. Most of those critics calling it "insensitive" to have the films' story located in the city where many African-Americans had to deal with too many tragedies.
Personally I think all of these critics are taking these "controversies" way out of hand. Both John Musker and Ron Clements have stated in interviews that New Orleans was an ideal setting because of it's "upbeat style, mystery, and the people's hope to always remain optemistic." Jim Cummings who provides the voice of Ray the firefly and composer Randy Newman (who both grew up in New Orleans) have also complemented the production on showing the postive aspects of the city and providing a glimpse of just how magical the city is. So if anything the company is paying tribute to the city and showcasing the celebratory enviroment and the positive mindsets of people who live there.

Quite frankly, some people are using this film as a platform to bring publicity to themselves. They will not be bothered to research the intentions of the people making this film because they just want to have publicity for their pet cause. This film could be praised by civil rights legends such as Martin Luther King, Jr. or Rosa Parks(who truly did so much to change things), yet some people would still scream that it's racist and harmful towards African-Americans.

I think that the contraversys are way out of hand. I mean they found falt in Tianas name originaly. I think that the animation is beautiful and is going to showcase a wonderful city and intersting characters. I

Something is wrong with my computer. Darn it! I'll try again later on that site. But I did manage to catch the note that said limited release in LA and NYC on November 25. Anybody who lives in or near those cities going to try and snag an early peek?
I'm really starting to become anxious though. (And not in a positive manner) One thing is for sure. Either this film is going to be beautifully adapted piece that has people roaring with cheer, or it's going to be a the biggest flop Disney has seen in a decade. And considering how well the animated film competition is this year, I'm not as hopeful as I once was. But as always we'll just have to see how it plays out.

Judging from the commercial and the talent, I think that the story is really going to capture the audience's heart. From what I've seen I think it looks beautiful too. I'm mostly worried about the music. I don't doubt the composer but if it's not absolutely catching music, it might prove to be a problem.

Randy Newman has a very strong track record with his music. He's composed many songs for Pixar including "When Somebody Loved Me" from Toy Story 2. The song they play for the trailers with this film sounds wonderful.
To be honest, I'm not worried about the competition. In one sense, Disney is really only competing with themselves and their own legacy. While there may be other outstanding animated films released this year (I've only seen Up), most of them don't and won't have the reach that Disney does. If Disney makes a film worthy of the company legacy, it will be just fine. And I still have high hopes for it. This is the first film made by Disney entirely after the Pixar acquisition. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but John Lasseter has too much respect for the Disney classics to let them make a movie that doesn't at least live up to those in his mind.

Disney has announced Princess Tiana will be making her official character appearence at DisneyLand in Anaheim, California. From November 6th to January 3rd, she'll be appearing in "Tiana's Showboat Jubilee" at New Orleans Square. Disney is already in the works of creating the typical products that the other Disney princesses have. (Like, costumes, dolls, blankets, ect) When she makes her debut at the park, all this merchandise will be available for purchase.
If the film is a giant success, hopefully she'll become a regualr character at Disney Parks. And many of the other characters for that matter.

Oh, I can't wait There's also this one, www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oym3Fov8e8Y&NR=1. It's the scene that you see a lot in the trailers. I don't think Naveen is supposed to be as white as we think. We don't really know much about his kingdom but when he see's the fairy tale of the princess and the frog, he says it in a different language (spanish?). Plus with some photos that you see of him, he's more brown or really, really tan. The actor who plays him is Brazilian.
