I couldn't find a thread for this movie, so just bare with me.
I just recently watched this movie (mainly because it came on the Disney Channel and there was nothing else on). I didn't like the plot too much, but the new characters (mainly the princess) were totally cute.
I was upset that Eddie Murphy didn't come back, though. I believe that if you can't get the same person to come back and do sequels, they shouldn't be made.
What do you all think?

Mulan Two is my favorite sequel. I adore the romance between the princesses and the Gang of Three.
But the Mushu sub-plot, in which he tries to break up Mulan and Shang, annoys me. It's out of character for Mushu

I didn't really care for Mulan 2. The story could have been a whole lot better in my opinion and like butter said I didn't like the whole sub-plot with Mushu either.

Seeing as Mulan is my one of my favourite Disney films, I'm surprised I haven't seen the sequel. But I'm going to buy it soon.

There is a thread for this somewhere, I remember it, but thats ok its majorly old by now. ***************
I don't care so much for Mulan II. I love Mulan and Shang as a couple but I hated Mushu, they took him so out of charactor and made him super selfish, I could understand why Eddie Murphy didn't want to reprise him. Plus the thing with the trio and the princess while totally adorable was also kind of corny.

I saw part of it and wasn't impressed by it. The problem with sequels is that you often lose the voice talent, especially with the likes of Eddie Murphy and Robin Williams(see Aladdin II), and run the risk of not having a solid story to tell. If a story ends with something like happily ever after, why tell more of it? And if you do, you have to be very careful. Beauty and the Beast Christmas worked because it was set during the first film so it could pull off the strength of the first film. Cinderella III worked because it used the framework of the original and asked what would happen if the magic was undone?

It's out of character for Mushu Mushu tries to break up Shang and Mulan? after all he did to get them together in the first one? I didn't watch this sequel, i was very disillusioned with disney sequels after Cinderella II so I haven't been watching any of them....

Yeah...In the sequel, it seems that when Mulan marries Shang, the Li guardians will watch over her, and Mushu will lose his position, and go back to gong ringer. So, he tries to break up Mulan and Shang to keep his job. But don't be discouraged! Mulan II is really one of the better sequels. ^^

Mulan 2 was a big disappointment to me. It wasn't nearly as good as I was expecting compared to the first.

well the hype and the ad campaign for it were huge so it was set up to be this awesome movie, Disney does that sometimes, they advertise like crazy and then the movie doesn't live up to the standard set by the ads...
edit: i saw this on toon disney a couple of days ago and it is fairly cute. At least it ended happily!

For some reason I was randomly thinking about this film and I got to thinking about how both my BFF and her mom agree that this film is filth. I myself however saw some cuteness in it. I mean the whole Shang/Mulan romance was cute and while the Princesses romance with the gang of three were also cute this is Imperial China we are talking about in real life those princesses would have gotten in grave trouble for marrying commoners or just someone who is not of royle blood period especially if in doing so they disobey an arrangement. And Yes I know this is Disney and they can't really do too much of that but in the first movie they at least gave Mulan some form of a slap on the wrist by having the little guy in blue(forget his name, the Emporers adviser I think he was) getting mad at her and Shang feeling betrayed. Then leaving her behind. So they could have given those princesses some form of a slap on the wrists because in real Imperial China what they did was unacceptable. Royle blood has a place that its supposed to stay in and if just one drop mixed unworthy blood it was a huge deal back then and I don't know what China is like now so possibly the tradition still lives. And yes I know I am probably taking this a little too seriously and I am really very very sorry I honestly understand my crime here. I know I really should not be getting miffed about these kinds of details when we are talking about films that are supposed to be kid appropriate but my BFF and I had this chat a while ago and actually she said most of this stuff, I merely agreed because its true after all. So to almost quote Zira if you want your pound of flesh take her lol. Another thing is also like I said the whole thing with Mushu was just unacceptable as well.

I have to say that I am not impressed by this movie either. It's nice, but nothing special. I didn't mind the whole Mushu sub-plot, and the princesses are cute, but I hate what they did to Shang ! they made him look weird. and the songs aren't my favourites either.
ah well, it's okay... for a sequel

Like everyone said the story with the Princesses was cuite and corney and as Shenzi pointed out, not really historically correct. Then again not a lot of Disney movies are historically correct even if in Mulan they still show a bit of punishment for her. I actually thought the music was pretty decent, not that I'm going to go a buy the soundtrack, if there is one. The part that bugged me, beside the Mushu part, was the ending and the fact that it all was just too easy. Plus the fact that all the bad things were squished together in the end and then a happily ever after just appeared.
