No, see, that's a common misconception. It's NOT a gift. It's a lot of practice. But you have to enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it, you're not going to practice, but the peopel who do enjoy it, practice, and thus get better. At least, that's my theory. (But on the other hand, I think the 'enjoying art' gene is around there somewhere, because I do come from a line of people who enjoyed art and painted and such, so, you never know.) But in any case, it's not a gift, it's just lots of practice. I didn't get good on accident, I got good because I dedicated a WHOLE LOT of my time to just trying and trying and trying to get better, all the time. No I think it is a combination and you need both. Both the initial skill and the drive to improve. I don't come from a line of artist at all! But ever since I was just getting motor skills, I was drawing. I entered 6th grade and saw I was pretty good, and very much enjoyed it. So I kept at it. Now I have finished AP Art Profilio and I have increased my ablity. My teacher suggested I paint (which I had never done before, and I found I was just as good in it as drawing. I try to help others though, I tell them to draw what they see and it isn't always easy for them. I think that is a gift, but I am not stupid. I know if I want to make a career out of it, I need to continue working hard.

You know, actually, I think I agree with you.
A little of both,
Just like most things when it comes to defining human ability and such.
But gift can definitely just go to waste and do nothing if you don't practice or enjoy it.

Not much. I'm hungry, and glad that people are active here, otherwise I'd be irritated and wanting to throw things at people. D<
Not that I do, but I was in a really lame mood.

But gift can definitely just go to waste and do nothing if you don't practice or enjoy it. No Joke! I know this guy who was VERY talented in art and got a scholarship to one of the best art schools. But because it is incredibly lazy he actually said, "This work is so easy. I'm not doing it." How can someone think that? He never tries to improve and nearly got kicked out of college

Maybe it just wasn't his calling.
Honestly, I wouldn't be able to stand going to an art college. (In truth, I kind of don't like experimenting; I've been so busy paying attention to human anatomy that I completely forgot about composition, so I can't actually draw a good SCENE, just a person standing there.) But if I made a carreer out of it, I'd jsut start hating it.

Ithink I do, but then again I might just want to minor in it. Not to mention I don't want to be a teacher and there are not too many art careers that actually pay well

That, and it would stop being fun, and it would start being an obligation.
