has anyone actually joined the Disney Movie Club?
I am considering it, but i know some of the mail-order clubs like that can really rip you off.
Does anyone have any firsthand experience with this one?

I've thought about it, but except for the classics that I truly want to own, I'm not sure Disney has enough other movies in stock since most movie clubs have the requirement about buying x number of movies every y years. I usually really increase my DVD collection when Costco has it's tremendous sales and I can stock up on what I don't have.

that was my hesitation as well. That and they send you movies that you have to mail back if you don't want.
This particular deal requires me to choose 9 movies including the initial ones over the next two years. I might do it though, because the movies available right now include some that were released a few years ago and aren't available anymore.

I signed up like a year ago just because it said like 4 for 2 dollars each, and with my income of $0 that really looked better than the norm =p. But then when I started looking into it, it required you buy some for the regular price...and I haven't really gone back. =/

I signed up a couple years ago. It sucks! You can not cancel your account unless you buy five titles no matter what you do. I have tried so trust me. And if you don't do it within a certain time it charges you like $30 bucks or something. I got a letter from them about it. Every month it sends you a form for the feature title and you either have to mail that form back or call the number to decline it or it will send you the movie and charge your account.
And recently it took money from me for a reason I am still not sure of without my permission. When my mom and I tried to call the place to talk to someone about canceling my membership it was always closed because they say it closes at 8pm but thats central time and we can not call any earlier than evening because my mom is at work and she wanted to talk to them.
Its a rip off from my experience!

We are signed up. Make sure you read everything carefully. You get the first four movies for extremely cheap, and then you must buy at least 4 (for the Canadian one) other movies by the end of a one year period - and even they are much cheaper than buying in the store! They cost about 15-20 dollars in the catalog, and in the stores (at least here) they are between 30 and 40 dollars.
For the director's selection, as Shenzi mentioned, if you get your account on the internet site you can just click one button and its done and they won't send it.
If you are responsible, you read everything carefully and ensure you understand what you are getting yourself into - its wonderful. We've saved probably 200 dollars on Disney movies through it. [/blockquote]

I am a member of the DMC and I can tell you that it is a waste of time and is just as bad as any other music/movie club. Stay away from it. You may be enticed by the free movies up front but you will regret it. Once you sign up only movies that are $19.99 or more count towards your agreement so that severely limits the movies you can order that count. Also, after shipping and handling charges just about any movie is cheaper at any brick and mortar store without having to wait. I love Disney and just about everything they do...except this. The customer service is awful and so is the club itself. It's almost like they aren't really with Disney. No heart, no class, no thanks.

[/blockquote][/quote] Have to agree with you here. Wife and I are signed up and we really enjoy it. We missed a deadline and got a film we already had. We called and explained the situation. They were very helpful and friendly. We sent the film back and they credited the money toward a film we did want. What I enjoy about it is being able to purchase the exclusives you can't find anywhere else. Some of the older live-action films. I recently received "The Sword and the Rose" from them.
