I saw this for the first time last week and I absolutely love it! It's my nephew's new favorite movie as well, so I've lost track of how many times we watched it last weekend.
There are tons of Easter eggs in Moana, so next time you watch it, pay close attention!

I love this movie! I went to go see it with a bunch of friends and I loved it! At first I wasn't a huge fan of the songs, and I've never listened to any songs from Lin Manuel-Miranda so had no reference to go on. I kind of feel like my culture wasn't too well represented within the music, as far as Mulan or Lilo and Stitch went, but I do enjoy the music now. The entire storyline was so familiar but refreshing and I love watching it

I saw this movie severals times in theatres and now own it on DVD and I LOVE it! Lin Manual Miranda wrote some truly memorable pieces of music which I think allow the characters to shine! Moana is such as strong character and I loved seeing her grown and learn throughout the film. The ended especially has stuck with me and I really found it refreshing and heartwarming.

Moana was recently added to Netflix streaming (at least in the US), so if you haven't watched it yet, you should!

Moana is probably the most powerful and touching film in terms of theme and musical performances since The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Assuming she did her own singing, the actress behind Moana herself has one of the most beautiful and moving voices I've ever heard. The climactic numbers 'I am Moana' and 'Who You Are', even just the one line from 'Who You Are' "This is not who you are! nearly brings me to tears every time.
Storywise, it could have been stronger.
The grandmother's death was abrupt. We needed to at least see her collapse from sudden fatigue, dizziness or chest pain to bring that together and perhaps this is more of my personal fondness for macabre but I'd have liked to see a more prolonged effect of the famine taking the island.
Considering that Maui's accomplishments as laundry listed in the 'You're Welcome' number are the most pronounced accuracy to the actual myths the character gets, that form of acknowledgment felt forced and not connected enough to his original background. Which leads quite nicely into my next point. I, personally was left wanting to know more about his abandonment and upbringing even before reading up that it has no resemblance whatsoever to the myths.
As far as I'm concerned, the giant bling obsessed crab was hardly threatening. He was a bit like King Louie except King Louie had more conviction and because he terrorized a child, a creeper aspect. This thing didn't much bring out Maui's sense of powerlessness without his hook. Furthermore, I'd have liked to see an antagonist who utilized the hook. Or tried to.
Nonetheless, I assure that the positive aspects of this film made more of an impact on me than the negative. It's the beautiful, meaningful lines such as the grandmother's "There is nowhere you can go where I won't be with you" and the beautiful singing voice of Moana that has gotten suck in my mind. Plus whenever I see a stingray, I think of the grandma flowing as a spirit in the form of a stingray through the waves and saying "guess I got the right tattoo".

Regarding the grandmother's sudden death, i've seen many people theorizing that the heart of Te Fiti was actually keeping her alive and basically giving it to Moana killed her.

Fascinating theory. I buy it. The heart does contain the power of life and the grandmother did have it all those years.

What's not to like about this movie? From the great storyline to the awesome catchy music. It easily became my go to movie when I'm looking for something to watch. The addition of Pua and Hei hei was great to break up the sometimes very serious story. Every time I watch this movie I get the songs stuck in my head for hours esp. "You're welcome"
Great! Now I have it stuck in my head again!

I love Moana. It had a great story, great songs, and great animation. I like the scene at the end where everything turned green again.
