This is what I just found out.
Giants will be Disney's 57th full length animated feature film. It will be directed by Nathan Greno (the co-director of Tangled) and will be "loosely" based of the fairy-tale Jack and the Beanstalk.
The release date is set for March 9th 2018. No other information has been released at this present time.
Could go either way but I'm hopeful about this.

Oh... That is interesting! I wonder what they plan on doing with the film. Every single time I see the term "loosley" featured in a description when I comes to Disney. I immediatley think of how Disney adapted The Little Mermaid. There is darkness and meloncholy included in it's storyline. Just not as extreme as what Hans Christan Andreson created. So I hope Disney follows that route. I don't mind a lighter tone as long as they make the characters sincere and the story has high enough stakes for me to care about them as if they were real. |

Just so everyone knows, this movie's release date has now been shifted to November 2018 to make room for the Wreck it Ralph sequel. It is also now titled Gigantic and will feature music from the team behind Frozen! The culture being explored is going to be Spain during the Age of Exploration (like 1400/1500 time period I believe) so this should be interesting!
*** EDIT**** Disney released a HUGE slate of movies and it seems this was moved to 2020 now (darn!)
