So I went back through over 9 1/2 years worth of threads and couldn't find one for this, so here goes! This was probably the first version of A Christmas Carol that I ever saw. When I was little (back in the olden days of the 1980's), this special was still new and aired regularly, but as I got older it seemed to me that it aired less frequently. I also remember the unedited version airing when I was little, with a few Christmas themed Disney shorts to pad it out to make it a solid hour, but when I watched it earlier, it was only a half-hour long. I don't precisely remember what was edited out, though. What is your opinion on Mickey's Christmas Carol? Sent from my GT-P3113 using proboards

Butters- I think ABC Family ripped this short film off.
I watched it earlier this week and I was astonished how many little jokes/scenes they scrapped in favor of commercials. It make me wonder why they even bothered to air it?
This is perfect for children who are being introduced to this tale. Now as someone who cites the 1984 version as a favorite because of it's unwavering dedication to displaying dire circumstances. This really just offers a peek into Scrooge's journey of self-reflection and potential. But we see it clearly enough for what could be shared with youngsters who are not ready to see a truly grim (if not) gruesome world.

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is my very favorite fictional Christmas story because it tells the story of redemption. My first exposure to the story was in theaters when my parents took us to see Mickey's Christmas Carol. In theaters it also aired with a similar length animated film called The Small One which depicted the story of a young boy whose family was forced to sell his beloved donkey to make ends meet. While the donkey was not capable of pulling the load the original family needed, it was capable to carrying a very pregnant Mary to Bethlehem. It too is a very sweet story.
Since Mickey's Christmas Carol was the first version of the classic story I ever saw, even today as I read Dickens' work every year, I still hear Alan Young as Scrooge and Goofy as Marley, right down to Goofy's placing the syllable on recognize in the wrong place. This one is one of my favorites.

I reread A Christmas Carol earlier this week and I read Scrooge's dialouge in Alan Young's voice too. But then I read all of Mrs. Crachet's lines in Miss Piggy's voice so... Sent from my GT-P3113 using proboards

If anyone wants to watch this, it's available on Netflix as part of Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In.

I know that it's June but I just had to comment on this thread. This is one of the few TV specials that I remember always watching as a kid. The tradition still holds to this day. It's one of the first movies I watch while decorating for Christmas and getting into the holiday spirit. I have it on DVD but I still watch it each time it airs on TV as well. Definitely a great Disney Holiday Classic.

I loved this as a kid. It was most likely the first version of a Christmas Carol I’ve seen. We had it on a home recorded VHS that had practically every other Christmas special such as The Grinch and Charlie Brown on it. I still remember getting Christmas ortaments of the characters when I was three.
