The Lion Guard

I'm not actually sure if the site is official or not, but I saw this earlier today and thought I would share it.

20 years ago, The Lion King roared to life in theatres. Disney Junior has now put a twist on this classic coming-of-age film with a new series for the next generation of audiences.

The Lion Guard will premiere in Fall 2015 as a television movie, with a subsequent series to debut in early 2016 on Disney Junior and Disney Channel. The story begins in the heart of the African savannah, as Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, assembles a team of his close friends to preserve the Pride Lands. The show will also include special appearances by Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu and Kion’s older sister, Kiara, the future Queen of the Pride Lands. The show will focus on conservation education, the importance of family and community, while also highlighting creative problem-solving skills and diversity.

Is it just me or did they rip off the Kopa design? Kopa in case some don't know is the son of Simba and Nala in a children's book series published before the Lion King II was made but Disney while giving their blessing to the publishing rejected the character and the series as canon.
Yet now they kinda ripped it off!

Fans treat Kopa as a first born cub before Kiara who was killed by Zira. Perhaps you could call it creepypasta. Search it on Youtube there are a great tellings of the story and some with some amazing art.

I gatta say this is off putting, not only for the similar design but because The Lion King will always be special to me and while I am grateful that they'd made it's sequel before it became a trend of crap, they've still taken this franchise down crap road already with 1.5. So especially with this series being aimed at preschoolers I'm skeptical.
