So now that all the winners have been announced and the show is over, what did everyone think of the 2014 Oscars?
I'm really glad Ellen was the host this year. She did such a fantastic job.
I'm really excited that all together Dallas Buyers Club won 3 oscars. Matthew McConaughey for best actor. His performance in that movie was phenomenal! He had to loose so much weight for his character and he did so well portraying this AIDs carrier who just doesn't want to die. And the Jared Leto (who is so hot... Yum) as best supporting actor in the same movie. He lost 30 pounds for his character Ray, the transgender unlikely friend of Matthews character. And then an award for best makeup and hair.
All and all I loved that movie (if you haven't noticed). A lot of bad language... But well worth the watch. =)
I noticed how Gravity won a lot of awards as well. I've heard a ton of mixed reviews on it, mostly negative. But I'm a huge Sandra fan and I plan on giving it a try.

Congratulations to everybody! Winners and nominees alike. Oh goodness. I was a puddle when Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong'o spoke. So gracious and delighted by the honor.
Ellen is one sharp lady. Gets everyone to smile no matter where they are from.
I'm stll a fan of Captain Phillips and American Hustle and am glad they recieved this type of recognition.
I will probably never be able to watch the tragedy that is 12 Years a Slave. The trailers alone jolt me in shock and bring stining tears to my eyes. But I give a standing ovation to not only all of the cast and creative team. I bow down before the late Solomon Northup. A treasure he was (and shall remain) for what he endured and his sheer determination.
I am now as eager as ever to get my hands on a rental for Gravity. I had heard numorous compliments about it's effects and Sandra's vulnerable performance. Just wasn't able to catch it in teh Cinema. It's about time to catch up with it.

I really need to see American Hustle and an very eager to do so. And me and my mother are wanting to watch 12 Years a Slave together. Speaking of that movie, I was disappointed that The Butler didn't receive any nominations. It is a story of an African American Butler and follows their history from slavery up until Obama's election into Presidency. It is a very touching movie that I thought deserved a nomination.

I'm kind of sorry I didn't watch it, because the highlights I've seen look fun, but tbh, it's hard to get excited about the Oscars when I've only seen one movie from 2013

I LOVED the Oscars First of all, Disney winning it's first award for Best Animated feature (without Pixar) was lovely as was the speech when Let it Go won for best song, they were so cute! I really enjoyed Ellen as the host she just had so much fun! Also, she gave out pizza which is amazing I don't know if i'll see Gravity. As seen last night, the special effects are amazing. However, i've hear a lot of "meh" in terms of the plot and apparently the dialogue is not very good. It's not my type of movie I guess xD

I didn't watch, but saw most of the highlights. Ellen is probably my most favorite person on the planet, she is so witty and amazing. I really enjoyed the thank speech/poem, so Anna-esque, haha.

Ellen is pretty amazing. SNL did a skit last weekend as Ellen as a host... Pretty accurate and funny!

Pardon, I'm about to go on a little rant, but first I definitely would have to say that bit with Ellen and the pizza was the best thing ever xD I don't know if anyone heard about this, but I figured it would be something to talk about. It blew up all over Tumblr and a lot of people, including me, got really upset over it. The article showed that four of the seven Academy voters asked had abstained from voting for Best Animated Feature, and three of them didn't even bother watching all of the films. One of the voters said that they had "no interest whatsoever" and as far as animated movies go, he would "seat [his six-year-old son] and go outside and make some phone calls." This really pissed me off, as it showed that these voters completely disregarded their duty to watch all of the nominated films because they had "no interest". They blew off an entire category because it was "for six-year-olds." This is incredibly hurtful to not only all of the nominees, but for Frozen as well. Don't get me wrong, I was delighted to hear that Frozen won. I thought it was an incredibly beautiful film. But now we will never know if Frozen won because it was the best film, or because it's, as a Disney film, is simply more popular than the others. While I still haven't seen Ernest & Celestine or The Wind Rises, I can speak for the other two, The Croods especially (a movie which I thought might win). This behavior towards animation is disregarding the years and years it takes to create each film - the initial storyline, the concept art, the character designs, the prop design, the storyboarding, the background art, the voice-overs, the score, the animation, the visual effects... They seem to be completely ignorant of the fact that, for example, Disney has been struggling to get Frozen on the big screen since the 90's. And I speak for myself, but I'm sure a lot of you will agree, that animation as a craft is not just something for children. It's a way of communicating that is incredibly powerful, a way of sticking with someone forever. I can't think of a single live-action film that has made the kind of impact on me that animated movies do, that makes me want to watch it over and over again for the past 20-odd years. Because it's a way of bringing back that hope, that sense of magic and invulnerability. And, well, screw them if they think animated movies are beneath them. It's their loss.

Yes... Ellen and the pizza was awesome! Lucky pizza guy... Best tip ever.
And I didn't know that! That stinks and is so narrow minded. I would so be good at that job. Thanks for sharing that it's bit of information!

Now I won't immediatley assume this is true. Every single year at these acclaimed award shows. There are rumors. Sometimes they are true, sometimes they are lies just to stir the pot. We do need to keep this in mind.
So "if" this really did occur and it truns out to be confirmed with concrete evience. I will be very ticked off! As any memeber of the Academy knows, (like anyotehr critic) it is there responsability to watch and judge every single piece nominated. Then decide based on the qualifiications of that category. Animation is now apart of the deal. So it's time to leave the academy if you wish to be selective in your film choices for whatever reason.
If this is just anotehr lie a person on the internet decided to create for the sake of causing an uproar. I will be equally ticked off! It's not right trying to give the academy a bad name whether you agree or not with the choices that were or were not nominated.

I heard about that. For some reason, when I saw it, I thought that the seven voters were just a sample, not the entire voting pool? I would have thought that there was a much larger pool of voters for all the categories.

No, that's correct, the article in my earlier post is a response to The Hollywood Reporter in which they shared seven anonymous Oscar ballots.

I saw this on Tumblr (It might have been reblogged by you, Joy). That is extremely irresponsible to do. Why would you even want to be a part of it if you're not going to bother even watching all of the nominated pieces?

I unfortunately didn't have the time to watch them this year. Looks like I missed out on some pretty funny and controversial information.
