On November 22, 2013, Disney had the scripting, casting, budgeting, and planning ready for a live action take on The Jungle Book. It has been given a release date of October 9, 2015.
I was always a big fan of Disney's animated version. Any opinions on their live action version?

There was a live action version made in the 90's. Unless that wasn't Disney?
Anyway, I would love to see a really faithful adaptation of The Jungle Book.

It was Disney. Came out in 1994. Starred Carey Elwes.
And I thought it was more loosely based though. so I'm with you in hoping it is more faithful to the original story line.

Sorry for the double post, but it was just announced that Bill Murray will be voicing Baloo in the upcoming film, joining the all star cast of Christopher Walken, Scarlett Johanson, Lupita Nyong and Ben Kingsley!
Kind of excited!

My first thought when I saw this thread title not even the first post was that though I never saw it, I know there's already been a live action version of this film, perhaps more than one as I want to say that I did see a portion of one. So that's kind of pushing it unless they can really do something unique with it like the Maleficent adaption. The cast list is pretty pleasing though, at least the half I've heard of.
I wasn't always a fan of the animated classic but one particular watch changed that. I'm not exactly unimpressed yet, I'm open here.

So what is the real story of The Jungle Book? I've never read it and I'm not finding a solid plot-outline anywhere.
I've only been familar with the Disney adaptations from 1967 and 1994.

Tbh, the Disney movie follows the basic outline of the book. It's been quite a long time since I read the book and even longer since I saw ths movie, so my memory is fuzzy. Many of the characters are very different from the book, Baloo in particular, and I'm pretty sure there were some scenes cut. The overall tone of the book is different. I remember it being rather dark for a kids book.

The original publication of The Jungle Book was by Rudyard Kipling in 1894 Though Wikipedia challenged this by speaking of a letter that was supposedly was found signed by Kipling confessing to plagiarism, personally I always take Wikipedia with a grain of salt as it's subject to editing by anyone. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jungle_BookThis is a much better, chapter by chapter summary of Kipling's The Jungle Book which does appear to agree with that given by Wikipedia: www.penguinreaders.com/pdf/downloads/pr/teachers-notes/9781405878470.pdfSo actually the classic Disney animated film and even it's sequel keep exactly to Kipling's basic outline including using all of his characters. So now I am wondering even more why they need to do it again. Here is a website where it appears you can actually read it in full: www.online-literature.com/kipling/jungle_book/1/

Just because it has the same basic plot doesn't mean it's a faithful adaptation of the original book :/

Never did I say it was faithful. My wording used that same discretion: "it kept to Kipling's BASIC OUTLINE". Please read my posts more carefully.
