One of the biggest blockbusters and controversial ffilms of all-time is coming back to the Cinema on April 5th! Anybody else a fan of this film? Even if you are not I'd love to know your opinion it. Or why you have no interest in it.

I loved Jurassic Park. I'm not sure if I'm going to see the 3-D release though. I saw a preview for it in 3-D with The Hobbit and it didn't look like the 3-D was special.
I'm curious as to why it's so controversial.

I think it's one of Spielberg's best movies of all time without a doubt I just won't be wanting to see it in 3D as 3D is so expensive

I don't remember any controversy surrounding the film? Can you explain? I saw this back when it was first in theaters. I was about 13 or 14 then. It was quite cool. I doubt I'll be seeing it in theaters this time around, though, especially if it's in 3-D. It's a little too expensive

Sure, I would happy to explain the controversey. Maybe I shouldn't have said all-time. But tt appears it recieves more hate then love. These are the main reasons why. (This is not my opinion by the way. This is just what has come up over the years.) One point is many scientists are not happy with how the film portrayed them and their profession. How they re-created the life of dinosours for profit and tried to justify it. Another is the business world itself. The character John Hammond and what he represents is not the most popular. He is called "the man who wants to play God." The third is how they adapted the novel into the film. In simple terms, the fans say "Steven Spielberg butchered a great book with sugar coating" I love this film because it's not just a big budget film that puts shock value above the story. There is a good storyline with likable characters and has left me with some good questions. I the action and the suspense is both fun and is crucial. Since I did not see it during it's initial release, I will be seeing it in 3-D. It maybe my only oppertunity and I will not miss it. This film was made to be on the big screen. The sound effects will be incredible.

Those are interesting points. As someone who read the novel 1 week before seeing the movie, I saw the movie for the first time with the story very fresh in my mind.
The movie was far kinder to John Hammond than the book was. The movie depicted him as a loving grandfather who wanted to bring dinosaurs back to life, but didn't think through all the consequences of such a decision. The book portrayal of Hammond was as harsh as what Silver outlined.
I enjoyed both the book and the movie. I'm far more upset about what Spielberg did to The Lost World than to the changes he made to Jurassic Park.
And yes, Jurassic Park is an amazing cinematic experience. My mom saw it with me and for weeks thereafter, seeing the cup of water in the car's cupholder shake would scare her.
I'm just hoping for the ability to buy Jurassic Park in blu-ray without having to also purchase The Lost World.

Another thing I'm looking forward to when I see this in the Cinema is hearing the score in all it's glory. Truly an epic peice by the genuis that is John Williams. The soundtrack has been playing in my car non-stop.
I really am not being biased when I say this score should have recieved an Oscar nomination. Not win it (Can't beat the masterpiece that is Schindler's List) but it should have recieve more acclaim. Look at it now. People all around the world recognize the theme. Music is actually a crucial part in bringing a film to life. The film would not have been the same without it.

This is the first I am hearing about it's release in 3D. I would love to see this in theatres. I was a little too young when it came out. I did see the 3rd one in theatres though lol.
I think this will be fun to see regardless if it's in 3D or not.

I agree with you Sarah! Jurassic Park is a fun film to watch. I think it's one of those movies that never gets old. Every time feels the first time.

I believe that in just about any other year, John Williams would have won best score for Jurassic Park. But at least he won it for Schindlers List. The music really helped make that movie. The soaring majesty of the main theme is right up there in the pantheon of Williams' music.

BRP- Thank you.
Sometimes the score doesn't connect with an audience. It doesn't feel as accessible. This not only works with the images on the screen. (That's an understatement) The melody reflects how the audience feels along with the storyline. We're bewildered, terrified and fascinated by the re-creation of dinsours. The music keeps us on edge just as well as the action. Mr.s Williams is a master at taking orchestra scores and making them cool. In other words, it's not the typical classical piano genre that would put some people (Who prefer popular music) to sleep.

Sorry for the double post. I thought I should tell everyone this. I just checked on my local Cinema's website. It said they wll be playing this film in regular format and 3-D. So if you want to see this film without watching it with sun-glasses on your face. Check with your local theatre to see if you also have that option. It's a little over two weeks away. Yay!

I enjoyed this movie very much. In fact, it's on my list to own eventually! However, I really do not enjoy 3D movies at all, so if I do go see it, it will be in 2D. I do agree, it has a rather controversial theme. However, some people just need to separate fact from fiction. We aren't really cloning and bringing back dinosaurs. So I believe people need to chill. On a lighter note, and changing the subject just a tad: Has anyone rode the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios? That was my favorite ride there! And about as 3D as I'll ever get.

I wanted to to ride to sooo badly! My family didn't go Island of Adventure though. Another film option that has been given to me by my local Cinema for this movie is called D-Box. For those who don't know. It's specialized seating. You have speakers attached to your seat. It also moves when anything major happens. Perfect for action or thriller films such as this. My friend and I haven't decided if we want to see it in 3-D or in D-Box yet.

That's really cool. I wish they offered more stuff like that around where I live. I rode a couple of Motion Movie rides at Universal and they were the best!!!! I'd definitely do something like that; made me feel as if I were actually a part of the movie.
