I just read something on the Disney Facebook page that Aladdin is going to be the next Disney Movie to hit Broadway in 2014!

I heard about it on Broadway World.com as well. In that same article they said The Hunchback of Notre Dame will not be far behind. I am so HAPPY! I love the films and am really pleased tthat these are their next projects. At one point it was rumored that they would do Dumbo. I was not keen on that since I thought either of these should be created for the stage well before that should. Some people may not be happy but i am over the moon! You can't rain on my parade of happiness no matter how hard you try.

Interesting. The Aladdin stage show at Disney California Adventure is wildly popular likely because the Genie constantly updating his material. They actually tried to close it down a couple of years ago, but when the public turned out in droves the summer before the official closing date, Disney decided to keep it going.
Aladdin will work as a stage show, but I'll be interested to how they approach the Genie.
Hunchback will work well also.
I'll be quite interested to see how the general public responds. I'm still trying to figure out why The Little Mermaid was not a big hit like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King.

This is awesome! As BRDK said, Aladdin would definitely work as a musical. I can't wait to hear more about this, and hope it is as successful as we hope

This is great news! Hopefully if they do well, it'll mean they transfer to the West End!
I for one am really looking forward to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I just think the film is so overlooked and it's one of the only films from the Renaissance of the 90's that hasn't got a 2-disc dvd, so to see this in the mainstream can only be a good thing.

I am confident that this will be much more successful than Tarzan and Mary Poppins (which I have heard good things about). As BRP mentioned, the Aladdin show in California Adventure has been going on for a long time. With the exception of the carpet malfunction, everything has been working for them. Great music, cast, transitions, costumes, and true enough to the movie. If they keep it similar to that, it'll be great. Or they could change it for the better.

Elliot- The Hunchback of Notre Dame will be released on Blu-ray on March 12th. I have never been to Disneyland or California Adventure so I am not familar with the show. The production of Aladdin will be completley fresh to me. Sure I have some ideas on which stage actors could play these roles (Both from Broadway & the West End) but I'm sure Disney will go with unknown names for both productions. Sometimes when a creative team member from a previous project get possessive. It can be damaging to the story. Not with Alan Menken! Just like when he was involved in Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid stage production. He knew what would work best for the story as a composer and vocal arranger. I can't wait to hear the new material and hear the classics in full-fledge Broadway fashion.

The Aladdin show at DCA is a 45 minute long production that is closer to Broadway quality than it is theme park production. Once when I watched the show, they had an established Broadway veteran playing Jafar.
As you would expect it basically follows the movie, with a new solo song for Jasmine. At certain points in the script, the Genie has permission to make up whatever line he wants to and refer to current event or pop culture moments.
He's also been known to take his cue from the audience. During one show, a couple of little kids started acting up like little kids sometimes do right when Jafar is about to become Sultan. After the family had to leave, Genie told Jafar that he had just ruined their vacation. On another occasion when the audience booed Aladdin after he broke his promise to free Genie, he told the crowd that they couldn't boo because he was the hero. When Jafar showed up, Genie informed the audience it was time to boo.

Oh... this sounds like it would be so much fun!!!! Genie is such a fabulous character... so fun and full of life. And with the story line of the tale, I do believe that this will and easily be transformed into a Broadway hit! I am rather anxious to see what they do with this project.

The casting anouncements have started. Sure enough Disney has stage actors but not mainstream names. I thrilled to hear that!
Adam Jacbos will be Aladdin. He has plae Simba in The Lion King and Marius in Les Mserables in New York.
James Monroe Iglehart will be the Genie. He was in the Tony Award Nominated musicals The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Memphis.
Courtey Reed wil be Princess Jasmine. She's starred in In Heights and Mamma Mia on Brodway.
And the bigget surprise of all. Johnahat Freeman who was the voice of Jafar in the film will reprise his role for the Broadway muical. This is not his first time in a Disney stage proction though. He was Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast and Grimsby in The Little Mermaid.

Double post time. Bring on the National Tour of this show! Aladdin has been a success so far at the Box Office. Now critics are getting in on the enthusiasim as well. Aladdin just recieved Tony Award nominations. For Best New Musical, Best Book (also known as the script) Best Choreography and Best Featured Actor. I've seen the promotional video. It looks like it would be a blast to watch.
