I read this in the newspaper recently and I'm surprised there wasn't a thread about this yet, but it's true. The BatB musical will close to make way for The Little Mermaid musical www.variety.com/article/VR1117957569.html?categoryid=15&cs=1This makes me sad, but more determined than ever to see BatB on Broadway!

Yeah, I've heard about it, and it makes me sad, but BatB had a good run, and it's time to make way for a new Disney musical! :]

I would really like to see this, but it looks like I won't get a chance to. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will go on tour like Les Miserables did.

Rats - I would've liked to have seen Beauty and the Beast. But - Little Mermaid onstage? Hmm...

I don't really have high hopes for TLM onstage. I got to see a college performance of BatB. It was pretty good. We'll see about TLM.

I haven't really heard much about TLM... Anyone know how it would be done? I mean - tanks of water onstage? I guess I could go look for myself, but... Anyway, I'd like to see it, however it's done. A local group I have performed with did Beauty and the Beast a couple years ago - it was pretty good - fun to see! ^_^

Honestly, I'm not concerned about how they'll do TLM on Broadway. The story and music is strong, and that's the most important part. Years ago, I wondered how in the world they were going to pull off all these animals in The Lion King, and they did that wonderfully. I'm confident that TLM will live up to the standard set by BatB and TLK.

Aww bummer. I saw Beauty and the Beast on stage at our local theatre and it was fantastic! I bet the Broadway show was just as good. Hopefully The Little Mermaid stage show will be just as good.

My main concern about TLM is that the title character is mute through half of the story. Yet, she still sings! Again, I don't have high hopes for this one.

In one of the movies best known for the main character's singing... the main character doesn't talk for a good percentage of the movie. I never got to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, but I saw The Lion King and I just hope TLM can be near as good. Then again, aren't they keeping Beauty and the Beast going with Anneliese van der Pol as the new Belle?

Having Beauty and the Beast off Broadway can be seen as a good thing, I mean its not going to get as much fame and money but other than that its a good thing. It will now give other companies to produce Beauty and the Beast and more people will be able to see it, even if its not up to Broadway's standard. I got to see Beauty and the Beast in Chicago, along time ago, and it was really good. Some off Broadway shows are just as good, in my opinion. Who knows if they're going to tour though, that might be why Anneliese van der Pol is playing Belle.

My main concern about TLM is that the title character is mute through half of the story. Yet, she still sings! Again, I don't have high hopes for this one. It's called a first person perspective. The audience will be allowed to understand what is going on mentally with Ariel, while the characters around her are left guessing. I was exstatic when I heard The Little Mermaid would be opening on Broadway. Unfortunately I haven't heard much on the technical aspects of the show but I have had a chance to listen to the music. Alan Menken should be proud. I also saw the cast list: quite impressive. I look forword to Disney's venture in this project. I am however dissapointed that Beauty and the Beast will be closing. I was priviledged to see it on a National Tour when I was younger but I didn't appriciate it the way I do now. Maybe after a certain amount of time has passed there could be a revival play. I think Disney wants to explore a little bit into it's other enchanting stories, which is understandable. And after all it will continue to run through High School and Collage Productions as well as Community Theater. So it won't die out, just taking a backseat.

I saw BatB when it was in South Bend, IN. The Little Mermaid will be interesting musical. I look for TLM to close and make room for BatB again, in the future. They'll probably alternate.

I just don't like it. That is best done when the character is alone, but is talking to herself. I think the audience will have a bit of a problem with the fact that she's supposed to be mute and yet she's singing. Even if they do understand first person perspective. Another problem I have is that they're closing BatB, one of the best Broadway musicals, and keeping Tarzan, which is one of the worst, open. Everyone I've talked to says that Tarzan has the worst story for a musical.
