I went to the thrift store today and I got the LP entitled "The Wonderful Waltzes of Tchaikovsky and Strauss" by Eugene Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra (not related to Leopold Strokowski and the same orchestra from "Fantasia"). It was on the Columbia Masterworks label (ML-5238) On track #4 from side 1, there was a song called the "Waltz from Sleeping Beauty". This was before the song was later used in a Disney animated film called "Sleeping Beauty", they have two songs based on Tchaikovsky's melody: 1. "Once Upon a Dream" 2. "I Wonder" If you listen very carefully to that song, this is what it sounded like before Disney made an animated film back in 1959. I got this video on iMeem and here it is. www.youtube.com/watch?v=juL1f7rBK4s

George Bruns also adapted another part of Tchaikovsky's ballet for music used in Sleeping Beauty. The scene where Maleficent is describing Phillip's plight to him uses music also contained in the ballet.
Bruns even received an Academy Award nomination for his adaptation of Tchaikovsky's ballet. Much of Tchaikovsky's ballet was incorporated into the final version of the film.

I tried to view it again, because the video was too blurry. The song you hear was taken from the final scene of the movie "Sleeping Beauty" where it goes into the finale of "Once Upon a Dream" until the movie came to an end. That song made the best ending to a Disney film ever made for "Sleeping Beauty". As I said, Eugene Ormandy did a splendid job using the original melody before Disney later used these two songs where they split up into two sections based on the ballet adapted by Tchaikovsky. George Bruns later did the score for the film to uses some elements from the ballet. On the LP, you can't see Princess Aurora on it on one of the LP covers until the soundtrack came out around 1959.

I think I have that song on a cd. I know I heard it before. I really like it ! It was such a good idea to use it in the animated movie.

That song made the best ending to a Disney film ever made for "Sleeping Beauty". Random trivia note about the ending of Sleeping Beauty. Disney animators had been toying with having the final dance of the film take place in the clouds for years. There is concept art of ending Cinderella like that, but in the end, they shelved the idea. IMO, it worked better for Sleeping Beauty than it would have for Cinderella simply because Flora and Merryweather fighting over the dress lended the right element of magic to make a dance in the clouds believable.

I heard it was first an idea to have a cloud scene during the song "someday my prince will come" in Snowwhite. but they had troubles animating the prince and they thought that showing the dwarfs emotions during it more important than Snowwhite's fantasy. Too bad, I would have loved to see more scenes of the prince. Normally he would've have more scenes. If you look at the 'making of', Walt and the other writers were playing with the idea that The Queen locked hem up and everything. but hey, now Phillip is more popular. He got all those scenes instead. But I'm getting off-topic, sorry.

Vicky, thanks for the info! I have previously uploaded several of the songs taken from vinyl, the other three that I have was "Snow White" and "Cinderella" which is still on vinyl, but the only copy that I don't have in my collection was the soundtrack to "Sleeping Beauty", I have it on cassette and it was released as 108GP on the Disneyland label. It was a reissue of Disneyland WDL- 4018 and DQ-1228 and I also have the "Lady and the Tramp" cassette tape which was also released as 110GP and it was also a reissue of DQ-1231 in 1962, that was also the other LP that I don't have too in my collection. "Lady and the Tramp" LP featured music by Tutti Camarata and featured singers like Teri York, Bob Grabeau and others.

Do you have any idea where I could find the whole score for Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Ballet? I've been able to find selections from the ballet, but never the whole thing. I'd love to be able to compare and contrast his ballet with Bruns' adaptation for the film. I found the CD soundtrack for the Disney film on Amazon, but no such luck on the ballet.

I just updated my first post, and put a link to YouTube so that this vid should look better than that crappy Aiptek camcoder. Go to this first post and watch a better version of that vid, but the angle looks different.
