I would remind people to not get too excited about this release until Disney actually announces a re-release, especially since this film has already been given the special treatment and since they keep films in the vault. 2009 is a ways off, and there are other films that Disney has yet to give the 2 disc special treatment to. I do think that Disney UK's info for a 2012 release is a more reliable source.

I agree with Jedi, Beauty and the Beast has already had its special DVD release. So Disney is probably looking to give movies that haven't a turn yet a chance first before releasing Beauty and Beast a second time. Hence the wait being until 2009 or 2012. I also agree though that the UK information of it being 2012 is more accurate consitering. In fact as Jedi also said, there has yet to be an official Disney announcemt, and until there is one there is a chance that it might not happen at all. So as much as I honestly hate to rain on the parade, if I were all of you I would not be getting psyhed at this time.

Yeah. I thought that, too. However, I don't think Disney's planning on giving this treatment to many more of their films...and let's face it, not many are great enough to deserve it. I think that could be why they're looking at early re-releases of some of these past Platinum releases. By the time Ultimate Disney posts it, it's about 80 percent certain. I've only seen them wrong one other time and that was "Song of the South", but I am aware that this is only a rumor at this point because Disney films are usually in the vault for about 10 years.

Why wouldn't they? And I think that some of them that did get a special treatment weren't great enough to deserve it like Dumbo and Pinoccio. No offense, I am just not a fan of those films so thats just my opinion.

I want Beauty and the Beast to come out on DVD again because I lost my VHS one so I don't have it any more, but I agree that they should have other movies come out on DVD that they haven't had re-released yet. A lot deserve it that they haven't done yet.

Well, I think Pinocchio does deserve it. Like it or not, you cannot deny it's legacy. The film contains one of Disney's greatest and most enduring characters singing what has become known as "The Disney Anthem". Dumbo on the other hand, while it is a good film, I will agree that it probably doesn't need a Platinum release.

Disney did a release of Dumbo very recently, and it wasn't platinum. There are some Disney films, that while they did not get the title "platinum release" received the same treatment such as commentary, lost and/or deleted scenes, songs, making of documentaries, concept art and so on and so forth. I am fascinated by the process of animation and what goes into creating these films, so I personally love it when Disney gives any of their classic films the right treatment.

Beauty and the Beast will more than likely be released again fairly soon, at least on Blu-ray, it it the first on the list of movies on the Blu-ray ad on the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest DVD

those two things just make the story that much neater, because you can kind of see some of the effort and thought that went into to story

Yeah and the Imax edition DVD provides MORE than plenty of that. There is a disk full of enough making of the movie stuff to write a novel with. So I don't understand why they need to re-release it. Cuz what else can they possibly add?
