I'm kind of surprised this hasn't been discussed yet. 1906 will be Pixar's departure away from Computer Animation and into Live-Action territory. The story will chronicle around the criminal activity and corruption of the government before and during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The company has pitched the storyline and visual language was inspired by the 1997 mega-hit Titanic. Brad Bird will be the director and will also be on hand as a sceen-play writer.
It's set to be in released summer 2012. (Date maybe later depending on how far along the film is) I'm very eager to see this! I think it sounds like a very well balenced film. I'm usually turned off by disaster films as it doesn't contain much substance. This however seems to have the right direction set up.

I've heard nothing about this before now. Honestly, the plot's premise really doesn't interest me, but the fact that it's Pixar's first live-action film is reason enough to see it.

Sounds exciting! I like the fact that Brad Bird is going to be directing this movie. I enjoyed the work he did on the Simpsons.

Strange, I though "John Carter on Mars" was set to be Pixar's first live-action film?

Sorry, that was my fault. I had discovered the film 1906 before John Carter of Mars and misread the article that was printed. John Carter of Mars will in fact be the first Live-Action film for Pixar. The film 1906 will follow shortly after. Sorry for the confusion.
