I looked for a thread for this, but I didn't find one.
When I hear Sorcerer's Apprentice, I think of Mickey Mouse in the blue sorcerers hat in Fantasia. Now Disney is making a motion picture called Sorcerer's Apprentice. It's a live action film starring Nicholas Cage, and as far as I can tell, has no more similarities to Fantasia expect that there is a sorcerer and an apprentice. In the trailer there is a short few seconds of buckets, mops, and water going amiss.
I like Nicholas Cage, but I'm not sure what I think of him in this role. Overall the film looks. . .exciting?

Wow... just wow... I don't even know where to begin with this... What is with Disney and getting famous action flick guys to do Disney movies... I don't know how I feel about this whole Nicholas Cage thing yet... It's just as bad as getting The Rock to do Disney movies.

I think a lot of fans are left with the same questions. There are clearly allusions to the most famous Disney version of the Sorcerer's Apprentice (see the design of the A in the film's title), but I'm trying to figure out what exactly it has to do with the original music and subsequent interpretation for Fantasia.
As a film, this looks interesting, but honestly, the title is a bit baffling. For me, The Sorcerer's Apprentice will forever be Mickey Mouse.

I saw a bit of a preview in an older issue of People magazine. Nicholas Cage looks really old in this movie and he has been given longish hair. It seems like it might actually be quite a dark film from what I have seen in the pictures.

I'm a big fan of Nicolas Cage too, but when I first heard of this movie I expected him to be to dresseed up as Yen Sid, because I thought he would just be perfect for that part. But now he looks nothing like Yen Sid in this movie! I was a bit disapointed by that but I'm looking forward to this movie nevertheless.

I saw the trailer of the movie last week, but I don't know yet if it'll be my cup of tea, so I'll probably skip a trip to the cinema for this one.

I don't think this movie will have much to do with the sequence of the same name from Fantasia. I'm sure there will be nods here and there to the Fantasia segment, but this looks to be a completely different story. I don't think Cage is playing a Sorcerer named Yensid. I think he's playing a Sorcerer trying to train an apprentice who can stop some sort of cataclysmic event.
Now, based solely on the previews I have seen for this film, I think it looks good and I will see it in theaters.

I just saw the previews on tv and I think it isn't as good as I thought it could be. Or maybe it could be good, but I wouldn't run out to see it. And I agree with Sarah, that getting these tough guys to do silly roles for Disney is just getting ridiculous. None of those movies look good to me. Though I think this movie has more potential that those other movies like The Pacifier and The Toothfairy namely.

I am really looking forward to this film. I am one of the biggest Mickey fans around and I see nothing wrong with changing this up a bit. I think it's important to remember that this tale was around long before Mickey, and someone other than Mickey Mouse can play the part.
I do think they are including the entire scene where the apprentice tries to solicit the brooms/mops for help. It seems that they will even include the music. I believe Balthazar (the sorcerer) does have the pointy hat we're used to, though he doesn't really wear it. This is only what I've surmised from the trailor.

This movie is now in theatres. Please feel free to continue the discussion in the Disney Theatre where a new thread is already in progress.
