I've taken the liberty of locking the POTC 4 thread due to it seemingly being a lot of guesswork over whether the film would ever come to fruition and seeing as though the title of the new film has recently been revealed and set in concrete, it'd appear this film is now going to be a certainty with Depp, in full Jack Sparrow get-up, appearing at the D23 Expo convention to announce the 2011 summer release date and title as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It's projected release date appears to be May 2011 with Rob Marshall, director of hits such as Chicago and Memoir Of A Geisha as well as the upcoming musical Nine, is to sit in the directors chair on this one taking over from Gore Verbinski, with Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott to write the screen-play again and Jerry Bruckheimer to again produce. Thus far only Johnny Depp has been cast. Thoughts/feelings?

I'm aboard!
It may seem like they're milking the franchise for all it's worth, but I think there are a lot more stories to tell about Jack Sparrow's adeventures.

I'm. . . I don't know. I kinda thought they were pushing it with the other POTC films and now they're going further. I was really hoping they would get while they were ahead (so before the fell behind), but I can't say I'm not interested either. I really love the POTC series and Jack Sparrow. I think Rob Marshall is a great director but I'm not sure what to think of it. The biggest worry for me is the script, if they have a great script I think it's going to be great, but if not, it'll be a fun but kinda bleh film.

I cna understand why news of a fourth might be met with apprehension by some fans but personally, I'm with Butters, there's plenty of pirating mythos to play with here and hopefully, instead of being tied down somewhat with the relationship with Elizabeth and Will, we might get a bit more full on action and some serious swashbuckling. I have faith in the writing of Rossio and Elliott on this one

I think the Will and Elizabeth storyline was one of the only things that kept the story grounded and didn't loose it's storyline. The films weren't just Pirate's fighting in mass chaos. In the third one, both Will and Elizabeth take on more Pirate personalities and the storyline goes into complete chaos. I think a storyline is still very important to have a GREAT movie, and I don't want them to lose track of that.

I am excited but very apprehensive at the same time. Pirates has been one of my favorite trilogies and I really hope that the forth can match the first three. As for the Will and Elizabeth story line I hope they may include their son. I am guessing that he will be following his fathers footsteps as a good man and a pirate. I would also love to see some other ties to pirate mythology of the time period as they did with the East India Trading company in 2 and 3 and the references to the New World.

Wait, so does this mean that the storyline will exclude Will and Elizabeth? Or does it mean the roles will have to be recast? The reason I ask this is because both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have been claiming in many interviews they're done with the Pirates franchise. They've both said it was a fun ride and helped put them on the map but they didn't get to release any creative muscles. They want evolve as actors. That is unless Disney attempts to bribe them with enourmous paychecks. I agree with SpellWoven. It was Will and Elizabeth's relationship that kept the story from running around in circles and kept my interest occupied. That and Geoffrey Rush's incredible performance! It feels like without these three characters the story is just a a ton of mumbo jombo.
So if this story is just about Jack going on a bunch of zanny adventures the I pass. But I've already stated my opinion on Captain Jack and am not ashamed to say I'm not fan whatsoever.

I don't think that they're going to include Will & Elizabeth at all, even if the actors did want to continue playing the role (okay, well then they might) because there story is pretty much left completed. I am a fan of Captain Jack Sparrow, and I think following him will be interesting, but you do need more characters that will help give it more of a story and a structure. The fact that part of the production team is different tells you that you can't expect Pirates either.

While it is very early and we don't know what will happen, Dick Cook resigned as Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios today. When asked for his feelings about the very sudden and surprising resignation, Johnny Depp may not be as excited about making a 4th film as he once was. I don't know much about the people who run Disney, but judging from Depp's reaction, Cook was an important part in improving Disney and trying to get it to be its best, yes?

According to all the executives Dick Cook was indeed a very important person in turning around the Company and the image of Disney itself. So to loose him is quite scary a loss. I have no idea who's next in line to fill those shoes but it's a heavy position. The Company has been striving to put out material that is honest and clever. What Disney was when it started out. So whoever the next person is needs to have that relvently same vision. But considering how fickle the film industry is these days, I'm not that optemistic.

Nobody really knows what will happen here. For all of Disney's successes, there have also been quite a few films from the live action side of the company that really flopped in recent years.

I have so many thoughts right now. First off, Penelope Cruz's character reminds me a lot of Elizabeth, especially at the end of the third movie. I love the mermaid and the fact that they are very much "real" mermaids or the ones that the legends are on. Geoffrey Rush looks different to me. There are so many characters that are shown, and I have so many questions about them!
