At Disneyland, the Mansion was complete by 1963, but the Imagineers couldn't decide what to do with the inside. This delayed the opening of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland for several years and was finally opened in 1971.
Follow the howls of the wolf to the special effects and ghostly gags of the Haunted Mansion, 999 happy haunts, but there's always room for one more! This popular attraction starts to line up outdoors under a canopy. It can get very hot waiting here in the summer months. As they wait, guests are treated to the humorous headstones that have inscriptions such as "Here lies poor old Fred, A great big rock fell on his head". The mansion itself is of the gothic style reminiscent of the 18th Century Hudson River Valley structures .
Butlers and maids (always in character) greet you at the door and escort you into the library (or stretching room, does the ceiling go up or does the floor go down?)
Guests move on to the awaiting Doom Buggies for their 8 minute journey through the mansion. The special effects are terrific, especially the duelers picture in the ballroom scene. In typical Disney fashion, attention is paid to the finest details you'll notice something different every time you go on this ride. No cleanup is required in this stately manor, dusting here requires the spreading of it, not the wiping up.

The movie ain't half as good as the ride itself. The haunting voice of Paul Frees as he says, "Welcome foolish mortals, to the haunted mansion."
"We have nine hundred and ninety-nine happy haunts here at the haunted mansion. But there's room for a thousand. Any volunteers? Hmmm?"

I love The Haunted Mansion! It's so much fun!
The part in the elevator, where it goes, "no windows, and no doors", it's soooo funny, because everyone says it with him.
And when you swivel backwards, you can lean forward and knock on the other person's chair, it's really fun.

My aunt said that she really liked the haunted mansion, and it’s one of the things I definitely want to see. It sounds really cool.

I've never been on it in the two times that I've been to Disney World before, let alone seen the movie, lol!

Oh I love that ride. XD I remember when we were standing in the I think it was the hall before you get on the ride. Where they give you the intro to what the ride's story is. Anyway, when everyone was lining up to go onto the ride the one cast memember, this older guy, he got right into my face and asked, "Are you scared? You could always stay out here with me." in a very creepy way. I just give him a blank look and went onto the ride.
