I am the only one who hasn't seen this one yet? haha
I saw it when I was 6 or 7, and that's already 17 years ago *gasp*
I wanted to rent it today though, my boyfriend thought otherwise *grr*

Hope you do get your hands on it. It's such a wonderful film and the extras on disk two aren't bad either. I learned so much more about one of my all time favorite films.

I LOVE lady and the tramp, it's a great film but I won't be buying the DVD as I haven't on video and at the moment my VCR is working just fine

Man I sound like a broken record today. But what can I say I love this movie. Love it with a passion. One of the very first Disney movies I watched when I was a tyke.

I think that this is a great Disney Classic. I think my favorite part about it is the diversity of the moods. There's love and happiness but it also presents a darker edge. The rat scenes are extremely dark and just with the different colors in the animation it completely changes the mood. The rat scenes used to scare me as a kid (so did the Siamese cats for that matter, but I just thought them and their song were creepy). Then it also has sad striking in different ways through the movie. From when Lady thought the baby was going to replace her to what was the expected death in the end. It's just all different ranges that I feel are found best in this film compared to others.

I love this film. (What can I say? I'm a sucker for dog movies.) I've had on DVD probably since it came out or soon after. I recently watched the special features again for the first time in a while and I liked how they made the film. I thought the excerpts from Disney shows were kind of long, though. L.G.

In the original ending, Trusty was going to die. But Walt, wary of all the heat he had taken for killing Bambi's mother, insisted that Trusty survive.

That would have put a huge dapper on the whole ending.

I think the film could have worked either way with Trusty living or passing away. However I honestly think his character would have been more memerable if he had considering how heroic he was.
One of my biggest guilty pleasures about this film is something a bit more edgy. I love how the creative team incorperated themes that were a bit risque yet it completley tasteful. The most of these sequences blurr the lines of what could have happened. The mystery is the best part even though there's strong indecators they did. But hey this is a storyline that people continue explore and experiment with. The good girl is hesitant but attracted to the bad boy. Is he what he seems? Is he worth it at all? Then the bad boy starts reevaluating his life. Very unique in a disney film but pretty much as always it's done so skillfully you have to take a deep look. Makes you wander what's behind the closed doors.

I get what you're saying. I love the "good-girl/bad-boy" theme in fictional works as well as "opposites attract" and I sometimes wonder if my fascination with these themes didn't begin with L&TT.
I also have to agree that if Trusty HAD died it would've made more of an emotional impact. Not that I want him to die, exactly, but as you said, it would've been more memorable.
