Taken from a side conversation in the Tangled/Rapunzel Sneak Preview thread: I'm going to give a brief a opinion on the Aladdin topic as I don't think this is the place to disccuss it. I'm just going to close it out. I think we should agree to disagree on this subject BRP. Obviously what we see in the legacy of the film is quite different. In my opinion though, I can still see a bright future for this film. Was it or will it ever be the on the shelf with the critically acclaimed Beauty and the Beast. No. But I still see it going down in history as a "Gulity Pleasure with Good Quality" as opposed to the more recent Disney films. Which I would classify as " Average to Poor Quality." I think Aladdin has done well with it's aging process for the genre it is. A Buddy Comedy with Heart. Interestingly enough, we may not be that far off in our opinions about Aladdin. I agree with you that it's not in the league of Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid. But it is still a good story. I can't help but wonder though if the film could have been up there with Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid if the humor had been more timeless. While I think Aladdin is easily the funniest of those films, I think the laughs in those two films are more timeless. "Teenagers, give them an inch and they swim all over you" or "The usual, flowers, chocolates, promises you don't intend to keep" as opposed to Genie doing his Arsenio Hall impression (though the classic "I'm going to Disneyland" line at the end is priceless).

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
It is one of my absolute favorites. Does anyone know when they will be bringing this back out of the vault? I missed it a few years ago (like 7) and I have regretted not buying it since. I want to watch Aladdin.... I need to buy this. Lol!

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for it ever since Beauty and the Beast was released on Blu-ray. No such luck as me and my best friend have been waiting to no avail. So I hear where you are coming from Ari. To pass the time. What's your favorite scene?

It has been in the vault for a while now, hasn't it? I love Aladdin, definitely one of my favorites!
I think the Prince Ali song might be my favorite scene…I love big crowd songs!

I do believe my favorite scene revolves around Genie's intro into the movie with his Friend Like Me solo. It was such a fun and upbeat scene and I adore Genie as the greatest sidekick of all time. I also highly enjoyed the end "fight scene" with Jafar as the giant snake against Aladdin. Though short, it was a really good fight and it really had me on the edge of my seat. What about you? Edit: I know it was out during my junior year of high school. So 7 or 8 years . Maybe it will come out on the 10 year mark?

Little fun fact for the Genie fans. And let's face it. Who isn't if you like Aladdin? Alan Menken approached Robin Willams after some brief recording of A Friend Like Me. Most of the creative team couldn't get enough of his wild antics as a comedic shape shifter. Alan however was abnormally blunt. (He's known for being one of the most likable and laid back composers on Broadway and in Hollywood) He felt Robin wasn't living upto his potenial and asked to dial back the charatcer impersonations. He wanted him to really sing the material. Not just sing-speak everything. Once Robin embraced his voice, Alan approached him once more. Declaring the late Howard Ashman (on eofn the lyrcists) would be proud.

Oh that is awesome! I'm so glad that he made Robin actually sing the song. That is what made it so wonderful!!!

Aladdin has been in the vault since 2004 or thereabouts.
There are websites that say Aladdin is coming to blu-ray sometime next year, but until Disney actually announces it, I'd take it with a very healthy grain of salt.
Aladdin is a very unusual entity within Disney. It's one of their biggest box office successes, but the company doesn't treat it like they do other films with similar box office or from the same time frame.

This is just in for the breaking news department. Aladdin is finally receiving the blu-ray treatment (Diamond Edition) for October 16th. YAY! Bonus material is a segment dedicated to the one and only late Robin Williams and a sneak peak at the Broadway musical.

That's great! I still don't have a Blu-Ray player though and I still have my 2004 dvd, so, sadly, I think I'll sit this one out.

About time! And I wonder if they're going to do what they did with some of the other movies and also do a release of the sequels.

Once upon a time my family had all three movies. Except that they were all on VHS and something happened to them and I never figured out what. So we don't have them anymore. And come to think of it, they were all the original releases, too.

Yeah, I had all three on VHS too. I wonder if we still have them?
