There is only four days left before this film turns 20 years old. That makes me feel old. I was in middle school when this movie came out. I'm gonna go sit on the porch and yell at the neighborhood kids to stay off my lawn

Would that make you feel better Butters?

Whooo!!!! Thank you Ari for helping to celebrate one of Disney's recent treasures. Still remains my personal favorite when it comes to Disney. And on my top ten list for all-time favorite films. So let's kick start this 20th anniversary discussion shall we? Do you remember your favorite scene back when it was released? Has it changed since then?

My favorite scene 20 years ago when I first saw the film will always be when Simba was singing "can't wait to be King". I adored that song. So colorful and fun. Plus, back then, Scar scared the bajeebees out of me.
But it has changed. I adore Scar now and I love the scene where they sing Be Prepared. Love Jeremy Irons voice. He is really brilliant and the song just strikes me all the right ways. I really think he is one of the best villains out there!

Scar should indeed rank along side the greatest Cinamatic villains. He was robbed from the list by The American Film Institute. Shame on them!
I Just Can't Wait To Be King and Hakuna Matata were my favorites when it was released. Anything upbeat to make me forget the that horrifc scene.
Little did my six year old self come to realize that a classic film does not become what it is without texture. Any of this film's dark, distubing and emotionally raw undertones signified in Be Prepared, the death of Mufasa and Simba's constant shame in excile are what make the film special. Life is full of tragdy, grey areas and rejuvination. So why not display it within a famly oriented film?

And I love how in the past 20 years, Disney has began venturing out and exploring different complex family situations. Not that they are complex. Perhaps that isn't the word I'm looking for. But everyone's family is different. They all have different backgrounds... Stories... And I think it's good that Disney doesn't focus on the stereotypical "mom and dad" scenario with happy families.

I understand this isn't the board's favourite film. I respect that. However for all of the fans of this film. I am compelled to share. Mojo.com has been doing numerous fun countdown videos. Which would include "Top Ten Great Opening Scenes" and "The Most Frightening/Disturbing Scenes from Disney Animated Films". The Lion King ranked number 3 on the first video while coming in at number one on the second. Awsome!

Happy 21st anniversary to the creative team of The Lion King! It's a full fledge adult now. Don't let Timon or Pumbaa get too caught up in happy hour. LOL! We all know that means they'd indulge on bugs galore. Now for some words of wisdom by our good friend Rafiki. "Oh yes the past can hurt. But the way I see it you can either run from it. Or learn from it."

Double post. The film I declared as my childhood and had a deep impact on my adulthood is going to have it's 22nd Anniversary this June?! Yet it still feels like yesterday my father took me and my brothers to see at the Cinema. No wonder the term nostalgia is associated with it. As the last time I ever leave a post for this film. I have to say this is a film I will treasure forever.
