This is an amazing rendition to one of the most popular stories in recent history. The story of how family is made through love is very touching. I admit that I cried during the end of the film. The actors brought each character vividly to life. Minnie Driver makes Jane outgoing and feisty. Glenn Close makes Kala one of the most beautiful mothers in the Disney legacy. And Rosie O"Donell has made Terk one of the most brilliant best friends. The animation was stunning! The imagery of the African jungle ranges from dark and mysterious to gorgous and colorful. And Phil Collins's music creates the icing on the cake. His emotional crecendo brings chills to the room. One of my favorite contemporary Disney films.

I've never read the books and I'm making a mental note to, but even as a kid Tarzan and George of the Jungle were interchangable to me. I knew some what of the story, human raced by apes. Sorta like The Jungle Book, now that I think about it, but I think its awesome that a film came out that kids and families can watch of it. I know that all Disney movies have all their fun and laughter matched with a bit of seriousness or frightening parts but this one really effected me more than others, mostly because it began and ended with it. I found this one to be one of the most emotonal Disney movies for me, matched up with Bambi and Fox and the Hound.

This film was a disappointment to me. I don't like Phil Collins doing music for Disney films. He's a great songwriter. I'll not dispute that. But, he's not good for Disney in my opinion. Story was pretty good. So was the animation. Although, I noticed the animation beginning to become duller in this film. It just didn't have the same magic as its predecessors.

I agree^^ the animation in this began the downhill streak that Disny films had for a while there. The animals were decent, but lacked the amazing quality that The Lion King animals had, and none of the humans looked quite right. The Story itself i love and i think it was well done. I liked the music, but i generally don't like Phil Collins. I can put up with the animation because the story is good though

Although I found Tarzan enjoyable, it never captured my imagination the way other Disney films have. I do think it was one of the last decent Disney films before the dark times. It will be interesting to see how the film stacks up over time.

I really liked it. It's not one of my faves, but I enjoy watching it. And I love the music! Phil Collins did a pretty good job. L.G.

I just watched this again for the first time in yonks.. It's suprising when you realise you understand stuff that you never understood before.. I mean, Now I get how Jane was able to talk to the monkeys at the very end, and what it was that she said - becuase Tarzan had taught her that before! And now I know how Clayton died - Death by hanging! I only just noticed the shadow on the tree! I'd never known how he'd died before just now! like wow... I've gotta start watchign this movies more closely

I love this movie, I think its so touching how that magnificent animal was so generous and giving to take a human baby in as her own. I loved how she taught him that in many ways they were the same despite looking a little different. Great morals for young children to learn especially those who are often the center of racist ridicule. One of my other favorite things about this movie is how he examined Jane when he first met her, the same way that his mother showed him how they were the same and how he fell in love with her. Its like a little kid crush because he is just learning about the human world, and I think it was adorable how he tricked her into saying "Jane stays with Tarzan" in gorilla. I would have to say that the saddest parts of the film were when Tarzan decides to leave the jungle with the humans and tells Kala that she will always be his mother. And then when Kerchack died. I cried a lot at both those scenes. Its just a really great movie, but I have not seen it in a while.

It is funny that this thread was revived. I too have recently rewatched it.
It has never been on the top of my list as well, even though I really do like it. But after a lot of Disney movies I find myself wanting to be the main character, live where they do, or anything of the sort that signifies I was completely capitvated by the movie. I didn't feel that way after Tarzan. I really did like the music in the movie. I thought the music itself and the words were so perfect for almost every part of the movie. It really made you feel the way the charaters felt. The voice casting was perfect too. Jane was vivacious and curious, Tarzan was mellow, sad, loving, Clayton was suave, sophsiticated, and hot temptered, Kala was soft and motherly... and so on. I think what my also not be appealing is what someone pointed out, it wasn't the happiest feeling story, not only ended in a big fight scene and violence, but started out that way too. Even though it ended happily with Jane and Tarzan together, and Tarzan finally knowing who he was and fitting in, the movie as a whole is filled with sadness. Dispite all of that, it was a good movie, not the top notch animation, I agree there as well, but there is also worse. The humans not being devoloped fully might be intentional. You were not suppost to connect with them as well as the animals and maybe they were also trying to convey a sense of underdevelopment and savageness. Oh and I watched the deleted scenes, It is a very good thing they edited them out. They had Clayton dying in an explosion on the ship. I liked that he died in the jungle that he was trying to tame. Which also reminds me.. Clayton's death was one of the most subtle yet grusome deaths Disney has done in my opinion. In another deleted scene they just added more humor to the Trashin the Camp.. funny, but not needed.
