Yup In the top 100 Disney Songs countdown it says 31) "The Bells of Notre Dame" (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) At nearly 6 minutes, this is one of the longest songs on the Top 100 list. It is a grand, atmospheric way to open one of Disney's darker and more dramatic animated films. www.ultimatedisney.com/countdown3/index3.htm

Do you guys think this would be a good place to compare and contrast with the novel? Or should I put up another thread for that?

I've only seen it once but I really enjoyed it! Infact I was talking to my friends about it the other day and we were saying how sad it was! My friend said it was definatly the saddest disney film she'd watched (although I dissagreed and said The Fox And The Hound ).

If they had followed the book more(which I am well aware they could not) your friend would be right, my BFF read it and told me stuff and it is seriously dark. Especially the end. Phew. Definetly not Disney appropriate so its easy to understand why they changed so much.

The idea that Disney would follow the novel is out of the question pretty much. Many of the themes residing within it may not even be appropriate to talk about on this board. However, one element about the book that I love is Victor Hugo doesn't create characters in a simple light. He makes either a protagonist or antagonist. One minute you enjoy the character, the next you despise them. They have so many colors, flaws, motives, and personalities even! I like a story where I'm kept guessing through out. But then again Disney offers a straight road that can be easier to follow when you don't want to be apart of a complex story.
