That sounds exciting. My dad's really going to have to buy that bluray player soon On another note, this might be posted on a different Disney BATB thread, but this next weekend they're releasing Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-Long in select theatres.

What cities will that be located in? ^^ It's certainly not happening in my community. Only two weeks left until BatB will be on Blu-ray! Although the closer it get for the release date. The slower time seems to become. Probably just my ethusiasim speaking.

Thank you SpellWoven for providing that information. I appriciate it. Unfortunatley this film won't be playing at a theatre near my home. It's a real shame since I would love have the oppertunity to see it in the Cinema again. Even though I did see BatB back in 1991, I was too young to recall the actual experience. Come to think of it I remember Pocahontas and onward. All the other previous Disney animated films I have no memory of viewing in the theatre. It's all a blur. I still can't believe the Blu-ray and DVD release is almost here! I'm definetley going to be counting this down. Hehe.

I was hoping to splurge and buy this for myself, but I haven't been able to, so I asked for this for my birthday. I have to wait a few more weeks, but it'll be free.

Heather had to buy it. This brings us up to four versions of this film--2 on VHS and 2 on DVD.

I've mentioned this in other threads, but over Labor Day weekend, I had the opportunity to see Beauty and the Beast in 3-D at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. It was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised at how much depth the 3-D experience added to this particular classic. There were quite a few breathtaking moments in 3-D with the best of them all being the already spectacularly breathtaking and jawdropping ballroom sequence.
I'm excited that Disney is going to release this in theaters in January 2012.

January 13th 2012 is the official re-release date of the critically acclaimed and beloved classic film Beauty and the Beast in 3-D!
Be sure to check out your local theatre's showtimes to see if the regular format option is available.

The 3-D was actually pretty subtle, to the extent that there were parts where I could remove my glassed and see the movie just fine. The 3-D was most noticeable during crowd scenes, when the characters were traveling through the woods and when rain or snow was falling, so the Mob Song towards the end looked pretty neat, though by that point my eyes were a little tired. Not overly strained, just a little tired.

Hopefully I'll be seeing this next week. Not sure if it will be in 3-D or not. It all depends on the showtime my friend and I decide on.
I must say I'm incredibly surprised this did not beat out The Lion King at the Box office. The Lion King recieved $30.2 million for it's opening weekend and came out at the #1 spot. Beauty and the Beast came out at 17.7 million and was #2 behind Controband. Even with it's second weekend at $21.3 million TLK not only beat BatB's record. It remianed the top contender while going up against strong competition such as Moneyball and Dolphin Tale.
There's really only one explantation I can give to such a dramatic difference in Box Office income. Especially for a film that's been much more beloved. More Movie Theatres offered to play The Lion King in regular format and played it more often throughout the day. Fans who didn't want to see it in 3-D or families didn't want to pay extra had the oppertunity to do so. Beauty and the Beast doesn't seem to be following in their lead. Which is a real shame!

I saw it in 3D back in January. I thought it was pretty good especially in the Be Our Guest scene.

I really wanna see this. I'm not a big fan of 3D (mostly because I'm unable to see 3D, lol) but regardless I would've went to see it. I have no idea if it was released in NZ or not. Perhaps t hasn't yet? The Lion King commercial for it's 3D release in theatres were on constantly whe week before, so maybe it just hasn't reached us yet.
