Ari- It's one of the most thought-provoking films I've ever seen. On top of being sensitively romantic. I wish there was more recognition for it. Thrilled to see someone else has a soft spot for it! Here we go again. 1. Frozen 2. Up 3. Lady and the Tramp 4. Cinderella 5. Spirited Away

Good selections! ? Based on all the Oscar Nominations, what film do you think will bring home the most awards?

Ari- Not sure what the distorted facial feature was for. LOL!
As of right now. the arrow seems to pointing towards Birdman as the potential big winner. It's been said by the New York Times that when a movie wins by the "Guild Awards" associations (Directors, Producers, Writers and ect) it's highly probable they will go on to win the big prize.
Not that I'm complaining since if it really is inbetween Birdman and Boyhood as the top contenders for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. I'm Team Birdman!

Dr.Howdy- One of my all time favorite show period (which just happens to be apart of the Disney brand is a series called Gargoyles. I love that it's darker, grittier and rich in character complexity. So many wonderful anti-heroes. I love it so much I own Season One and Two on DVD. I also have a soft spot for The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Goof Troop, the Aladdin and The Little Mermaid spin off series, the television continuation of Lilo and Stitch, Tale Spin, and Phineus and Ferb. Ari- Just for the fun sake of yester year. I have set my DVR to catch up with the movies I enjoyed in the late 90's and early 2000's. Such as The Thirteenth Year, Johnny Tsunami, Stepsister from Planet Weird, Under Wraps, The Ultimate Christmas Present, Rip Girls, Miracle in Lane 2, Cadet Kelly, Jett Jackson the Movie and Zenon Girl of the 21st Century. Typical they would all play at 3am when I need to sleep. Mostly I just watch once and get rid of them after to make room for more recordings. I would not go so far as to declare I love any of these films but as I would identify them as guilty pleasures at best. But they're fun for what they are. Lilo and Stitch (movie and series) was great. and ohhhhh man, I miss the Gargoyles!! I've never met another one to like it hahaha.

Ari- I hope you like it. The humor is not conventional so I hope it doesn't rub you the wrong way. It can always help or hinder a dramedy because there's a fine line in what's funny and what's insulting. Birdman has shameless type of quality to it. Not for everybody to enjoy. Speaking of walking that "fine line". I'm going to do my best to sound as if I am a critic and not an addicted fan when it comes to describing why I think How to Train Your Dragon 2 deserved at least a nomination for Best Picture. I'll start by saying that making it the winner would be overkilt considering the Academy prefers far darker and complex films to take home the Golden Statue that is the epitome of ideal film-making and storytelling. If movies are to be celebrated and recognized for their ability to create a transported experience that just well leaves you asking qyestions you won't have answers to for a long while. And then keep re-visiting as you doubt you ever will have a solid answer to. I still think Dragon 2 fits the qualiifications to a certain degree. This film does not say outright whether it is better to use violence (potentially eliminate a threat) in the case of self-defense as opposed to striving to avoid it in hopes of resolving conflict without bloodshed. On first glance you may think this is animated and by Dreamworks so the answer should be fourthcoming. On the contrary. Like Hiccup at the near end of the film, the audience is left divided if not undecided what action is best to take. Notice how he and Toothless alike did not kill Drago and his Bewilderbeast. Was it the best course of action after his not-so-idle threat on why the world should be dominated by him? Before one answers one needs to revisit the orginal film. It was because of Hiccup's defiance againts the war with dragons that led them to a peace offering. Only it takes diligence and patinece to achieve it. The hawk vs dove example flows boldly in the film's viens and leaves an ambigous ending open for the triology that has people buzzing over what will happend and what they would have done if in Hiccup's shoes. Granted it appears to create the illusion of "Happily Ever After" this is not a fairy-tale. Like life, the unpredictable is to be expected but that doesn't mean you shouldn't just quit from it. Pain and pleasure are in a abundance just as the grey areas of how to fill in the blanks on what is to be executed when the hour arrives to define the shift in the tide. When philisophical questions such as these arise. That deserves credit. Along with a strong base for a story that could have easily been sugar coatedfor younger aged viewers reserved to enjoy. The dazzeling animation, epic musical score, authentic and diverse cast balance out this whirlwind of a tale that creates a powerful atmosphere. Film is meant to use it's tools (aka: effects) in the service of the story. Books are created so the imagination is at it's peak. When visuals just can't seem to compete. No one vision would ever match for a whole audience to agree upon. No secret why many adaptations are presumed and often fail in their delivery when transitioned from page to screen. Yet it can be stated there are stories (such as this) that seem destined for another medium to tell it. Merely putting this on paper would not do it justice. Some stories are enhanced emotionally thanks to the wizardry of filmmaking enlightening the senses of a movie goer that would not have been possible in the form of a book. How to Train Your Dragon 2 has proven this theory to be correct and has it in spades. One way to determine the answer. When the movie ended, did you feel engrossed in the story or did you feel the urge to only comment on the effects alone? If you answer yes, Dean Deblois (the director/writer 0f this film) did his job. Sorry for the novel length answer but I felt I should attempt to get a professional point across without the "I am in love with this movie" ramble. Other movies who had the potential for the Best Picture slot. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Big Eyes, Into the Woods and Nightcrawler. Dr.Hawdy- Oh no my friend. I don't like this series. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Ari- LOL! Was supposed to be more of a celebratory comment on the film-making/storytelling as opposed to a rant againts the Academy. I'll work on fine tuning my posts when it comes to giving off a critical statement. But you glad liked it none the less. Speaking of which. The Oscars are this Sunday. The moment of trth is almost upon us. I'm so nervous and thrilled! Based on chronological releases. These are my top choices thus far. Of course subject is possibly set to change as the year goes along. 1. Cinderella (March) 2. The Avengers: Age of Ultron (May) 3. Jurassic World (June) 4. Crimson Peak (October) 5. The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2 (November) Honorable Mention goes to Tomorrowland (May) Greatly anticipating all of these titles!

Ari- If you are soooooooo over my gushing of the HTTYD franchise (Don't worry it will die down after the Oscars is broadcast) We can latch onto one of these films. We can especially cherish that a rare moment has occured with me taking a liking to a gothic horror film. Who knew I would?! I honestly don't think it's nearly as bad as last winter. I can drive myself to work when compared to the amount of snow that blocked traffic in the year prior. Yes Michigan has had some artic blasts in tempeture but I can handle it. As long s I can make on the road with my car. I'll take it. We've been fortunate enough to miss most of the blizzards that have struck on the east coast. Now those poor people must be miserable. Two winters in a row they've been buried.

Oh yes! This year has been positively crazy as far as winter storms! Glad we aren't on the east coast!!!!!
What is something you are looking forward to doing this spring?

Ari- The poor East Coast has been presumably put out a warrant for Queen Elsa (as a sublte joke) after two trecherous winters in a row. LOL!
Nothing eventful is planned for my spring. Only anticipating being able to wear less layers.

Ari- The last week went by smoothly because one of my "horrible bosses" had her vacation week. Now she's back so we'll see what comes.
The week prior almost felt heavenly though!
