Who else besides me agrees that all the Disney movies from 1989-1995 had possibly the best music Disney has ever heard even to date?
When I think about it, I can't compare any new Disney music to the standard of Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, the Lion King and Pocahontas! Perhaps Hercules but for the most part the music allan menken composed then was absolutely fantastic! I remember those songs and the rhythm of each tune over every other Disney music. Wouldn't you say so?

*Moved to Disney Jukebox* Hercules has the best soundtrack! But yeah, there is something really special about the music from the late 80's and 90's.

Alan Menken is awesome...but I'd say the BEST Disney music happened with the Sherman Brothers. Especially Mary Poppins. Menken/Ashman runs a close second, but I don't think I could have a Disney CD without the Shermans!

Yes I very much agree. The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast are two of my top favorite soundtracks. Such beautiful lyrics. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman were a wonderful team on Beauty and the Beast and I absolutely adore the Elton John versions of the Lion King songs as well as the film versions of course.

Ya'll forgot The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas, which also have good music.
Hercules and HBND were made in the later 90s, but still amazing. I miss those good quality Disney movies!

I don't know if I would say the best music but it's definitley one of my favorites. Mainly because Disney has always had such a diverse range in genres of music. From the 90's alone there's a variety of music contained in the Disney legacy. From musical theater to pop to gospel to Rock, there's something for everyone to enjoy. And yes I am in love with the music from my favorite films- The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tarzan! It gives the stories it's essance and emotionally ideal value. The composers and lyricists of these films were brilliant! As were the performers.

If you look at other music from that time period it was great too, late 80's early 90's produced somre really good music. The disney music out now isn't horrible, but it isn't as memorable, while most of the main stream music out now annoys me so much i rarely turn on the radio. In My opinion the standard of good music has fallen so much since the advent of shows like "American Idol" and "Nashville Star" the winners of these shows aren't as good as they think they are and the whole music industry is being dragged down by them! *climbs off soapbox and turns on 80's music*

"American Idol" and "Nashville Star" the winners of these shows aren't as good as they think they are No one follow this example I feel uncomfortable doing it but I would like to go off topic for a quick second in response to this. Thats just your opinion Lorelei. I have grown to like American Idol and I think the winners are really good. And so were some others contestants. Just because they are not from the '80s and '90s does not mean they are not good. Again sorry please lets keep this on topic I don't need to get in trouble anymore.

Honestly, I hope that they get back to have some real memorable songs again. And come to think of it, the reason why I think that time period had great music was most likely because I was six years old at the time. You know, it's what we grew up hearing. Maybe that is the same for generation younger than us when it comes to the Disney music now. lol I'm just spitting off ideas here but hey......
(Oh, and I can't believe that I forgot about tarzan...maybe I did because it was around and after that period of Disney music (for me personally) when the tunes started to go a bit down hill)
but yay for Tarzan!

Yes thats true Moomlu, I grew up in the 90's with this music and I just love it. So far Enchanted is the only recent film that can hold a candle to it.

Likeness or not towards any genre of music is based on opinion, not fact! Same goes for a song or artist. There is no direct answer and for good reason. You alone make the decision if whether or not something is a classic. Acclaim and success is merely based on the critics choice (which is still an opinion) and amount of gross. But even with those factors involved, the induvidual decides whether or not the piece has lived up to it's expectation. This is why I disagree when people say something (especially in the entertainment business) is the best or worst. Technically those titles don't exist because there will always be someone out there who will be on the opposite end. And rightfully so. It's whatever appeals to "you". That's what matters the most.
