That's right. It's been confirmed. The Lion King is joining the host of classic Disney films receiving a live-action/CGI reboot. It will be directed by Jon Favreau, the same director behind the live action 'The Jungle Book'.
So far this seems to be all the information there is:

Personally, I'm not terribly impressed conceptually. I'm not convinced that hyper-realistic animals can provide the dark atmosphere and emotion of the story and am especially concerned about how Scar will be handled. I don't think I can accept a Scar without his unrealistic dark colors or Jeremey Irons behind the voice.
The only hope I'm holding out for this is the chance that we'll get back some of the deleted content, primarily, Scar trying to court Nala to be his queen and Scar's original death by flame consumption after defeating Simba.

Hmmmmm, I've never bothered with watching the Disney live-action version of The Jungle Book, so I more than likely won't choose to bother with this Disney live-action version of The Lion King either

This movie is such a childhood treasure for me, and I'm not sure if I'm able to let that treasure be shared with something else. I guess we have the sequal and prequel (or midquel), then came the two series, I think they've milked it for everything it has. Well, apparently not, lol.
I'm not saying I won't watch the movie, I'm just saying it honestly probably won't compare for me. Especially if they will have the songs, which honestly I won't be able to hear sung from anyone but the cast.

I haven't gotten around to watching the live-action Jungle Book yet so my opinion might change, but i feel like real animals won't be able to convey the emotions properly? You know? I mean, movies like Homeward Bound and Babe did a fine job with emotions, but unless i'm mistaken, The Jungle Book used CGI on the animals and i'm a little worried that it might be uncanny valley-ish.

The Jungle Book live action movie was actually completely 100% CGI with the animals It won an oscar for their visual achievements because of this. I was never taken out of the film for this reason and was completely blown away. As such, I personally have no reason to think they could not do it again with the Lion King. However, the Lion King is not a Disney movie I am as attached to when compared to some others so that may be why I have a different opinion than many of you

I mean, I enjoyed the animated version, but I didn't really mind the idea of a live action version. But I watched The Lion King religiously as a child, so I'm slightly more apprehensive at the idea of this, lol. I'm always open minded, but they are treading on thin ice for some people (me, lol).

TBH, that actually makes me more worried about the uncanny valley, but I seem to be more sensitive to that than a lot of people.

The snippet I quoted establishes the live action Jungle Book's CGI and that this new The Lion King will use the same technology.
I enjoyed the "live-action" Jungle Book but the idea of it didn't bother me in the first place because I was never attached to the original. The Lion King, however, was a big part of my childhood and as I said in the OP, I don't see it translating emotionally.

So it is confirmed that JEJ is returning as Mufasa?? I'm actually really glad. If any of the actors came back to do it, I'm glad it was him. It would be hard for someone to portray Scar as well as Jeremy Irons, but he doesn't even like TLK anymore so I lost all hope of him returning to the role. And Beyonce starring in it would definitely be different, lol.

Man, I don't know about this. I tried watching the Live Action Jungle book remake and I just could not buy the emotion from the animals. The uncanny valley wasn't as strong as I had feared, but some animals did look "off". So unless the technology used really improves, I'll be skipping this one. :/

I already cringe enough at his Kingdom Hearts 2 voice which is NOT Irons. If it's true that JEJ is reprising Mufasa I appreciate that but Scar is the most important to me, he and Shenzi are the characters closest to my heart. I hope Whoopi Goldberg will return.

I'm still wary of this. The shots of Pride Rock looked so majestic, but there was something off about Rafiki.
