Me too. This will be the fourth installment... So I will be hesitant. Who knows... They may surprise us.

Eh, I'm not impressed by this concept, it's got gimmick written all over it and this Kion character's design is clearly a knock off of the suggested cub of Simba and Nala that Disney rejected as canon before the making of 'Simba's Pride', Kopa.
And I'm disgruntled at the changing of several voices (though I can understand if they didn't want to be a part of this) and the apparent absence of Kiara. I actually do see potential in the idea of giving them a second cub but leave Kiara out would be wrong and defeat the idea the way I idealize it.
Though since I am a Lion King fanatic, I may have trouble ignoring this. There's a high probability I'll watch.

I'm intrigued and slightly horrified. Also is it going to acknowledge the events of LK 2? I didn't see any mention of Kovu or Kiara in returning characters. Which just seems strange since they live at Pride Rock too. Then again if it's going to be a Disney Junior TV show too they'll have plenty of opportunities to toss them in for guest-appearances I guess. :/
I at least hope they will mention the others from LK2 or at least give us an idea of where they are if they really are not in it.
Anyways, the LK has always been one of my favorite Disney films, so I'm sure I'll check it out regardless. I'm not expecting much though.

I forgot about Kovu, good catch Kerbobbled. If they are not going to acknowledge the events of 'Simba's Pride' I find that idiotic and unintelligent not to mention unnecessary.
Though Kiara didn't want to be Queen so perhaps Simba came to embrace that and let she and Kovu go off and start their own pride. That would actually be more realistic than Simba stepping down from the throne for Kovu. In real life prides the leader does not step down, a challenging successor must dethrone him in a fight like what happened between Simba and Scar and even Scar and Mufasa in the original film.

I've gotten the impression in the last few years that Disney may not consider the direct to video sequels canon, so it is possible that Disney will be disregarding the events of TLK2.
Disney Jr. Has been airing clips of it recently. The animation looks nice, very much in line with the original.
The Return of the Roar is a really dumb sounding title though... >_>

I'm convinced 'Simba's Pride' is, in fact, canon because the trailers had used the shot of the cub held up at the end of the original film as Kiara. The whole concept sounds dumb, how believable is a cub as a guardian or the concept of a guardian in a pride? As for the animation looking "In line with the original", well of course, Kion is an exact carbon copy of cub Simba with a lock of hair.
Hmm, I like the Cheetah though, Egret.
I'm confused as to why there is a subtitle when it's a movie according to the article.

Hey, a handful of clips have turned up on Youtube, one of them featuring Kiara. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ68xqfBc34&feature=em-subs_digest-g-vrecsSo she hasn't been disregarded but this is almost worse, it makes absolutely no sense. Kion couldn't have existed while Kiara was a cub given his absence in 'Simba's Pride' and she has this totally out of character stuck up attitude about being the future queen much like Simba as a cub in the original classic but in 'Simba's Pride' Kiara wasn't like her father, she didn't want to be queen! Also, the voices and animation are horrid. >_<

I watched part of this with my nephew. It was okay. He was being noisy, so I couldn't really judge the voice acting, but I thought the animation looked fine.
Regarding Kiara...I missed the first half of this and haven't seen Simba's pride in over ten years, but...is it possible that this movie takes place before Simba's Pride and Kion dies (or leaves)? There are hyenas in this movie, but I vaguely recall that ths hyenas had left sometime before Simba's Pride?

Correct, the hyenas were specified to have "run off" in 'Simba's Pride'. It was a quick comment made by Nuka when he and Vitani venture into Scar's old lair to obtain the fire they start at Kiara's first hunt. I did not realize they as well were featured in this new film.
This new film could, in fact be set in the past prior to 'Simba's Pride' but it would be a quite a stretch.
To justify Kion's absence in 'Simba's Pride', Kion would have to have either died prior to Kiara's trip to the outlands or have left the pride shortly preceding Kiara's first hunt.
I'm not entirely sold on the banishing scenario because Kion would have had to still be in the vicinity when Kiara had left for her trip to the outlands but remained offscreen and not joined her. It does make some sense because in a real pride males are banished in adulthood since there can only be a single male who can only be replaced by forced dethroning but since this franchise inaccurately uses the heir concept there is still a conflict there.
In the scenario when Kion dies prior to Kiara's trip to the outlands, her change of attitude toward's being the future queen and Simba's over-protectiveness of her is explained. Plus in the two clips I watched it wasn't suggested that she'd met Kovu yet in this film so it could be claimed that she hadn't.
Though I'm not thrilled with the fact that this would be practically a carbon copy of the popular Kopa theory that Zira had killed him before Kiara was born, I lean slightly towards favoring the latter.
Both, however, beg, where was Kion during Kiara's presentation at her birth? The clip I posted above suggestively portrays them as twins and Kiara deemed the heir because she came out first. No, Kion sensibly wouldn't be presented since he's not the heir but Nala was standing for the entire presentation, with not a single moment that implied she could have been caressing a second cub and Kiara got all the attention from all characters. Let's not forget that epic Timon and Pumbaa "GIRL?!" moment. Unless Kiara's birth preceded Kion's by an entire day? Is that even plausible?

Do we know for certain that Kiara and Kion are twins (or littermates or whatever you call it?)

As a fact, no, not to my knowledge, it's mere observation. They don't appear to be more than a few days apart in age. This doesn't change either of the possible scenarios though.
