So I saw American Sniper last night and just have to say that it was brilliant. Didn't realize that it was Clint Eastwood directing it... He did wonderful. The actors did wonderful. If you see one movie in the theatre this year, let it be this one!!!!
I also want to see Taken 3, 50 Shades of Grey, The Conjuring 2... I'm sure there are more, but I'm at a loss at the moment!

Adding Far From the Madding Crowd to my list. I'm a sucker for a period piece drama. Only I'll have to stay away from the novel if I wish to be surprised. And that's tough when there is Barnes and Noble less then a half hour drve from my house. I need to garner some will power.

Here's my list of favorite movies year to date that I've seen ranked by favorite. To varying degrees, I liked all of these movies, however there is a gap between the first 3 and the 4th.
1. Cinderella 2. Jurassic World 3. Tomorrowland 4. Avengers Age of Ultron
Still to come that I definitely want to see in order:
1. Star Wars The Force Awakens 2. Star Wars The Force Awakens 3. Star Wars The Force Awakens 4. Inside Out 5. The Good Dinosaur
On the possible list depending on life, reviews, et all. These are listed in release order. For one reason or another they intrigue me, but whether or not I see them in theaters depends on reviews for some, timing for others.
1. Terminator Genisys 2. Minions 3. Ant-Man 4. Fantastic Four 5. Mockingjay Part 2 6. The Martian (no idea when it comes out, but I saw the trailer today with Jurassic World and it looks good).

Battles at the box office are intense for blockbusters. Furious 7 so far not only captured the month of April. Thus far it remains the highest on the world wide scale for 2015. (Over one billion five hundred million) And still playing in many territories. Although winding down drastically. Now in fourth place behind Avatar, Titanic, Avengers:Assembled. But Marvels' Avengers: Age of Ultron is not going down without a fight. The top film of May has come out to one billion, three hundred million. Still going strong across the globe in it's own right. Jurassic World is the latest sensation to make headlines in regards to financial success. Over five hundred million on an opening weekend. However take note that unlike the previous two mentioned films. JW went out of the gate opening in many countries at once as opposed to building anticipation. Will this hinder it's total in the long run? We'll see. One thing is for certain. Franchises with special effects (molded especially for 3-D screens) are a shoe in for a heck of a lot of money. Take note I did NOT say they were a recipe for critical acclaim. That is another matter altogether. I have not seen Furious 7 (will probably rent it) but I still vouch for the Avengers sequel and Jurassic World. These are more then straight laced action packed popcorn flicks. If they were I'd demand my money back. They have thought provoking themes within their core. But they also happen to have action sequences in them. Science theory and humility is in each. So I strongly disagree with the critics who blasted them. Of course if you want deep, complex philosophical themes all throughout where you feel you must have your mortal existence questioned again and again. Then look elsewhere. (Like Citizen Kane) These films still make plenty of time for entertaining fun and jump scenes. Come on October and November! I've seen new trailers on the net for Crimson Peak and Mockingjay part 2. SO EXCITED I CAN'T STAND IT!

When a critic begins a review with something along the lines of bloated spectacle, that's usually a sign for me that I will not agree with that critic. I usually tend to separate art from spectacle (and to be fair, it is possible for a movie to have both).
So for instance, I can watch Tranformers Age of Extinction and say that I enjoyed the spectacle of gigantic robots battling each other in a major city. Doesn't mean I think it's a cinematic masterpiece that everyone must see. Just that it delivered what I expected, which in its case was a lot of explosions and cool robot fights. But not much beyond that.
However, a blockbuster can also deliver thought provoking entertainment while chomping up the scenery. For me, Jurassic World did that. Like the Chrichton novels, this movie asks questions about the role of science and technology in our lives. It asks questions about the responsibilities we have towards life. While I think it's more subtle than the original Jurassic Park in asking those questions, they are there nonetheless.
I'll be interested to see how things play out for comic book properties going forward. While more and more comic book movies are being green lit, there are some early indications that audience fatigue is beginning to settle in.

Thank you Ari!
It will be an end of era but this last half of the story will linger in your mind long after the credits finish rolling.
If you haven't read the last book in the series. DON'T! Trust me, you'll want to be surprised with how it concludes. One thing I can promise you. It won't be conventional.
