Big Hero 6 opens today! Remember to use the spoiler code or leave spoiler space! And remember that the spoiler code DOES NOT WORK in the PB app, so if you use the app, proceed with caution ! (Also, since I'm using the app, if someone could lock the BH6 preview thread for me, I'd appreciate it, I can't figure out how to lock it ) Sent from my GT-P3113 using proboards

Locked it! I'll message you how to do it on the app later! I really am kind of anxious to see this! I honestly do not know if I will be able to see this in theaters as I have some other upcoming movies I'm going to be seeing. However, this will definitely be a rental! Possibly a purchase if I like!

I'd really like to see it in theaters myself, but money is so tight, especially with Christmas right around the corner, I don't know if I'll be able to afford it :/

They shouldn't put movies out around the holidays. The middle/lower class people cannot afford it! Lol!

They shouldn't put movies out around the holidays. The middle/lower class people cannot afford it! Lol! For me pesonally. It's more like "Why did they have to release so close to The Hunger Games installment?" I think this looks adorable. And I can't help but hear all these positive reviews floating around. Such a shame my money is being save up for different forms of entertainment. It will most likely have to wait til rental.

I was toying with seeing it this weekend. But then I saw Interstellar. Best to give this one some time so I'm not comparing it to Christopher Nolan's latest experience. Wouldn't be fair to Big Hero 6.

So I finally had a chance to see Big Hero 6. My biggest takeaway from this film is that Disney is in very good shape right now. Whereas the 2nd Golden Age beginning with The Little Mermaid was by and large built on fairy tales, the current iteration of Disney feature animation successes is built on solid storytelling whether it be a fairy tale (Tangled and Frozen) or different kinds of stories (Wreck It Ralph and Big Hero 6). I also think it bodes well that Disney is now telling stories that are more appealing to little boys.
As is always the case with Disney animation, the film is beautiful to look at. Set in the fictitious city of San Fransokyo, the film's design is fascinating. As someone who lives near San Francisco, it's very fun to see so many San Francisco icons given a slightly Japanese twist to their look.
But fortunately, its merits go far beyond the visual appeal on screen. The movie really plays like a superhero origin story. Origin stories are very tough to crack in superhero films. For every Batman Begins or Iron Man, you can have a Green Lantern or Daredevil. Fortunately Big Hero 6 is much closer to the first two. The story clearly focuses on Hiro Hamada, a young teenage boy being raised by his aunt after his parents died when he was 3 years old. While very smart, Hiro lacks focus and direction in his life until his brother Tadashi takes him to the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. There he meets up with some of Tadashi's friends and finds himself challenged intellectually again.
His brother also shows Hiro a medical companion robot named Baymax. This is where the film really begins to shine as the vocal performance and animation combine to create another lovable cinematic robot. It won't be long before Baymax takes his place next to WALL-E and R2-D2.
At this point, I won't say much more as I want to avoid spoilers. Suffice it to say, something happens that drives Hiro and his new friends together to stop a threat to the city. In this portion, the film is similar to Batman Begins or Iron Man in that our new heroes begin to develop their skills. One thing it does very well is give you enough of Hiro's friends to like them, but doesn't bog itself down in developing their stories. If Disney wants to make a franchise out of this, there is plenty of time to do so in later films. Some superhero movies suffer from trying to develop too many backstories of too many characters and wind up hurting the overall story. In this respect, Big Hero 6 is more like The Dark Knight or The Avengers, both films that dealt with multiple characters, but didn't get weighted down under telling all their stories.
Big Hero 6 really has a lot of heart. It's a daring story that brings out some real emotions from the audience. The little girl next to me was very emotional about the film and there were a lot of laughs frequently throughout the film. As a final note, even though I have compared Big Hero 6 to some recent prominent super hero movies, this is far friendlier to little kids than those films.
And make sure to check out Feast, the animated short that precedes this movie. Disney is now on a Pixar like winning streak with brilliant animated shorts. While I've been feeling this way for a while now, the fact that Disney now has 4 consecutive animated hits tells me that Disney feature animation is back. While in my opinion, they've been trending upward since Meet The Robinsons, the success of Big Hero 6 shows that the general public is excited to see Disney animated films once again.

Alright, so I saw the film earlier this month with a friend and was very surprised at how emotional it was, two scenes had me on the verge of tears. Baymax was such a fun and sweet character that made you forget he was a robot. His final act reminded me a lot of the 90's animated film 'The Iron Giant', I found it beautiful. It had my throat burning with tears, a few may have even escaped. One of the things I liked most was how there wasn't really a villain, just a man who lost his daughter and a man who made a mistake. I wish they're had been a bit more closure with Callahan but thought the way Karma nailed him in that he got his daughter back but was unable to reunite with her because of his actions was kind of brilliant. Overall 4/5 stars. I can't wait to own the DVD or Blu-ray.

I watched this with a friend because no one in my family wanted to pay money for a cartoon . It was her second time seeing it, so that says something. I knew nothing about it going into it, so I was pleasantly surprised! Again, very clever and just beautifully crafted. I loved the creative setting and the actiony feel and thought it was very relatable. Who doesn't sometimes fantasize about being a superhero although we don't actually have super powers? It's definitely sticking up for natural intelligence and using our brains. {Spoiler}I loved that line that was a play on Walt Disney's "if you can dream it you can do it" but they changed it to "if you can think it you can do it". Huzzah! I did not cry (surprise, surprise) although it does play on all of your emotions. In a good way. Great film! Again, probably not gonna buy it, but it'd be fun to watch again
