Since Frozen opened on Wednesday, I thought I'd start a fresh new thread for it.
Please remember to use spoiler tags! If the spoiler tags don't show up on your skin, use this code:
[spoiler=Spoiler]insert spoiler here[/spoiler] and replace the "insert spoiler here" with the actual spoiler.

Hopefully no on minds but since I missed the upcoming version of this thread I am going to respond to a few comments from over there in this thread. I've known her acting but never that she sang. So I have checked this out myself and at first I wasn't sure but upon a second listen I have decided that while she doesn't have the best voice I've ever heard it does have a Disney feel to it. I think she will pull off the singing in this film. In case any one else is interested here is the sample I chose to judge: www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3RzJxQey2EIt's a theatrical performance which I believe is most fitting, I honestly can't see her voice cutting it as a recording artist. Then again this was one performance so perhaps I am in no place to make that kind of judgement. Interestingly I recall seeing an image of an early design of Prince Naveen (right here at Mrs. N's in fact) in which he was actually white. It's a clear memory because it concerned me, this meaning a mixed coupling. That is something that ridiculous as it is, there is a controversy over and thus a delicate angle to go in so I wondered how Disney would handle it. Apparently they chose not to as Naveen became dark skinned, which was probably smart though I would have applauded the uniqueness. Interesting there would be complaints of his not being of African decent as neither was Tiana technically if you count the lack of a background. But to complain of Caucasian characters in a Danish fairy tale takes the cake as far as ridiculous goes. It seems people these days enjoy looking for things Disney does wrong with their films. Though I am not familiar with the original tale (actually having just heard of it upon glancing at the other thread) and as a lot here I as well was not impressed by the idea of Tangled but it greatly surprised me as so many other films I'd felt the same about have and in this case a very interesting story with tasteful humor is being presented here. I'm excited to see this film. Sorry I simply could not resist addressing this; she couldn't ACT if her life depended on it. She's the most emotionally constipated human being I've ever had the displeasure of watching (I used to be a Twihard).

So, I haven't seen it yet. I probably won't be seeing it in theaters unless I am able to go with someone (I don't go to theaters alone). So while I'm trying to avoid spoilers for this movie, someone posted a .gif to my Tumblr feed that actually majorly spoils part of the plot. Is it weird that the reason I'm not upset at all about this particular spoiler being that I totally saw it coming anyway? Then again, I hang around TVTropes.org and thanks to that I already know that Hans is the actual villain of the film. And so long as I'm in this spoiler tag, the .gif in question involves Kristoff kissing Anna.

Shenzni- I'm hoping to find clips of Kristen Bell singing from the film. I really hope she proves me wrong. I went back to re-check some of the videos where I heard her sing. My opinion from what I heard remains the same. Not impressed. I'm not the least be worried about Idina, Johnathan and Santino. I know they can sing. And going off what you said with Kristen Stewart. She always claims her technique is about being subtle. Give me a break! I've seen my share of acting (on film and stage) that is both subtle and engaging. Kristen is just bland. Due to finacial reasons. I'm going to skip this in the Cinema. The spark that should be there for me to be greatly enthusiastic just is not. I will be sure to rent it when it's released on DVD.

Oh my... I actually saw it twice already (Once with my best friend and again with my mom). The first time was opening day and then again this afternoon (both times the theater was completely packed with no seats to spare). I've already decided the film is going to become one of my favorites. The animation is just gorgeous (though I didn't see it in 3D - bet it's even nicer there) not to mention it really, really gives of Broadway feels for me with the all the songs. Like they didn't seem random or oddly placed, they just fit. {Spoiler}Though the songs die down halfway through the movie and we're left with actual dialogue... Everyone in the theater seemed to have a great connection with all the characters and during the humorous parts everyone seemed to understand and laugh along - even the really young kids (Most of which were just down right adorable with their Olaf and Sven plushies). Kristen Bell's voice really seemed to fit Anna's character, and to be honest her singing wasn't bad - though actually seeing the clips with the songs really helps (I listened to the soundtrack before seeing the movie) I might talk more spoilers later but for now I'm going to leave this post at that. Sorry it's kind of messy and stuff. * Also if anyone is buying the Frozen Soundtrack the Deluxe Edition comes with demo's of the original version of the songs that eventually got scrapped/re-done. So if you want to hear early stuff it's a good buy.

I have yet to see it as I was out of town when it opened. I hope to catch it this week. So far, it's getting good reviews and had a very solid box office opening. Still happily spoiler free.

Interesting comment since Silver and I were discussing how Kristen Bell's singing and my personal opinion is that her voice just barely cuts it as theatrical and won't as a recording artist. Silver if you do end up finding clips of her singing part in this film please do share. I'm honestly unsure when I can expect to see it, hell I still need to see Catching Fire. I feel rather stupid I had not insisted upon that film on my birthday. Oh well.

I finally saw it last night. In many ways, I'm still formulating my feelings about how good I think the movie is. For now, I will say this. It is quite possibly the most beautifully animated film since Sleeping Beauty.

Some you can even see with lyrics. For the First Time in Forever and Love Is An Open Door. I'll let you decided how her voice stacks up to her cast-mates. You can also hear Let It Go sung by Idina Menzel, It's Summer by Josh Gad, and Reindeer(s) Are Better Then People by Jonathan Groff. But don't look at any of the comments. Many tell you spoilers. I hope you can see Cathcing Fire soon.

I ended up seeing Frozen with TEN of my friends xD I have to say after reading reviews of how good it is I had to take a couple days to kinda take it in and make my own opinion. I think the music over all was fabulous! I'm a music theatre person and it really brings that kind of feel. It helps that Idina Menzel played Elsa, Let it Go was breathtaking. I did happen to see Frozen in 3D (it's the first 3D movie i've seen in a while) and I personally think it was worth it. It really brings out the texture of the animation, especially the snow and ice. In general it was just great to look at.
I really love Tangled, so i've been trying to decide which I thought was better overall. I've come to the conclusion that I need to see Frozen again to decide since I was so excited the first time.

I saw it one week ago and I feel like I've been able to process my thoughts about this film. In the end, I think Frozen is a solid addition to the Disney canon, but where it lands in the end remains to be seen.
Much has been written about the music. For me, the music is one area where the film falls short. While the film is a full blown musical in the vein of Beauty and the Beast, I feel like the music is too pop contemporary and grounds the film in the current day instead of making it timeless. There are also scenes where I felt as if the music was stepping on the story development, though this may be the fault of difficult to understand lyrics and random theater noises. While not quite legendary, the music does have a moment or too. Unlike most other animated classics, I think Frozen lacks a defining musical number.
One area where I think the movie shines is in developing Anna. She has an awkward shyness to her in places that I think is a nice difference from most of her princess sisters. On the other hand, Elsa remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. Delving more into her struggles with her powers and the effect they have on her family would have been nice. The other characters have their moments and add to the ensemble. I do want to say a quick word about Olaf. Thankfully, he proves to be good comic relief. I was among the many who found their enthusiasm for the film dampened by that first teaser, which is nowhere to be found in the final film. However, in the finished product, he lends an air of comic naiveté to the story.
As I mentioned earlier, the animation is where this movie really shines. Elsa's ice palace is beautiful. I find myself hoping that someday Disney attempts to realize this in one of the parks even if only as a holiday decoration. The reflections on the snow and falling snowflakes are a joy to watch. If possible, I recommend paying the up charge to experience this film in 3-D. There are moments it seems as if all you're missing to feel the snow in your face is the biting cold of winter.
Now, for overall rankings. In the CGI era, (Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, Tangled, and Wreck-It Ralph), I place the film fourth for now behind Bolt (3), Wreck-It Ralph (2), and Tangled (1). That said, subsequent viewings may elevate Frozen ahead of all but Tangled. At least part of Tangled's appeal to me is the Han Solo and Princess Leia vibe of Flynn and Rapunzel. I still haven't figured out where to place it in the overall Disney animation canon. Upon first viewing, I feel it's similar to Mulan which has a lot of strong points going for it, but also seems to be missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. However, it may also be that subsequent viewings elevate this film even more. At least for me, I so enjoyed the beauty of the animation that it is a movie I will revisit again.
On a five star level, I place Frozen around 3 1/2. In terms of animated films this year, I really want to see it take the Oscar. While I enjoyed Despicable Me 2, Frozen is a better film. Is it better than Monsters University? In the animation department, it should win hands down. Frozen is a beautiful sight. For all my quibbles about the film, I very much want to get the book The Art of Frozen. It's a movie that showcases the beauty of animation as an art form above and beyond "children's entertainment."
