So, I just spotted on the Walt Disney Pictures twitter page that Helena Bonham Carter's been cast as Fairy Godmother. ASDFHJGBFVDCFGHJKHNGHBFVDCFGUJ. Ahem. I'm much more intrigued now. You'd think she'd be playing the villain, but omg, I can't WAIT to see her as Fairy Godmother!

I've done some research and my very scarce findings indicate that this film will largely be faithful to the original 1697 tale by Charles Purrault "Cendrillon" with three significant differences from Disney's 1950 animated classic: 1.) Cinderella will meet the prince before attending the ball but not be aware of who he is as he introduces himself as a palace employee. :/ Although it may be little known, this isn't original. This concept already exists in at least two film adaptions, including even the Hilary Duff modern adaption Cinderella Story. I've seen at least one other use of it, a more traditional use but I can't put my finger on it. Cinderella had stumbled upon him in the garden and when she assumed that he was the palace gardner he went along with it, appreciating attention for something other than being the prince. They'd become friends and agreed to meet at the ball wearing matching flowers to be able to pick each other out. Unfortunately he ends up telling this plan to the King who loves the idea and has a flower passed out to all guests upon arrival. She ends up agreeing to dance with the prince while waiting for her 'gardner friend' not realizing that they are the same person. If this sounds familiar please speak up. It's not the Brandy version is it? 2.) Helena Boham Carter's Fairy Godmother in some manner appears in the guise of a kindly beggar woman. Not original either, to Disney specifically. We already have beggar woman guises in both Beauty and the Beast and Snow White. Then the Snow White version is mixed into Enchanted. According to my findings Purrault's Fairy godmother was actually closer to the whimsical being from the 1950 animated classic. So this is just Disney being unintelligent. Sources: disney.wikia.com/wiki/Cinderella_(2015_movie)insidemovies.ew.com/2013/09/2...ate-blanchett/www.kdramastars.com/articles/...vie-update.htmBut the most significant twist is that: 3.) It will be told from the perspective of Prince Charming or Kit who will be played by Richard Madden apparently well known from the Game of Thrones series (I've not seen it). Other cast members include Lily James as "Ella" and Cate Blanchett as the stepmother. Full Cast list: www.imdb.com/title/tt1661199/?ref_=nv_sr_1The film's original director Mark Romanek had to step down last year due to having a dark approach to the plot which Disney did not approve of. Shame. Source: geektyrant.com/news/2013/1/8/...-director.htmlHuffington Post describes it as "Fantastically Twisted" here: www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_5331680.htmlI'm not too impressed so far but I am interested. Oooohhh... that makes me more excited! This won't be a theatre view for me... but a rental most definitely.

Shenzi- These "resemblances" are more of that of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical as far as I am concerned.
Being as I am a fan of the musical production (though I realize this will not be of that genre) I do intend to see this film in the theatre.

That's the Brandy version you speak of Silver and upon scanning it have come to be reminded that here as well she and the prince do meet prior to the ball with the prince pretending to be a commoner but it is not the version I was thinking of. Good to know that there are three versions that use that concept not two. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Good to know that there are three versions that use that concept not two. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Actually there are four versions of Rodgers and Hammerstien's musical of Cinderella. Each with minor differences and a few different song selections. The first was the televised special in 1957 starring Julie Andrews. The second was in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren. Then it was updated for the again in 1997. The one most are familar with starring a diverse cast including the late Whitney Houstan and Brandy. Now it is a full fledge stage production playing at the Broadway Theatre in New York. It opened in the spring of 2013 and is about to go on it's first North American National tour. Global productions are in the process of being planned. Based on what was said in the article. The director and writer of this film have used counter points from each of the R&H productions as a blue-print for their story. Now that you mention it though Shenzi. It does sound vaguely familar. I've been running my brain ragged to no avail. But if I can figure out the title. I will let you know immediatley.

Interesting, I happen to be most familiar with the Brandy take because my kid cousin was into it as a child. I'll have to look into their other versions.

Just found this new trailer on Facebook: www.facebook.com/video.php?v=824599257581401It looks well done but nothing too special so I'm still on the fence about it. There are so many live action adaptions of Cinderella that this one really needs to be able to stand out to catch my excitement.

Cinderella is one of my guilty pleasure stories in the entertainment medium. So I will be checking this out once it is released in the Cinema. I'll be booking tickets for the National Tour of the stage musical when it comes to my hometown as well. This is one of go-to feel good stories.

Same! I love fairytale adaptations, even if it's a story that's been done a million times! I really liked the trailer, so unless reviews are awful i'll be catching this one in theatres as it looks beautiful

Many recognize the course of the story from the animated film but I'm already picking up several Rodger and Hammerstein inspirations. I think this is great to fuse both together. Main one being, the Prince will have a larger role.
