I had no idea that Disney was making a live action version of Cinderella until learning that they had cast someone as Cinderella. Cinderella castThe film also stars Cate Blanchett and is being directed by Kenneth Branagh. I'm not quite sure what to make of this.

It just depends on what route they go with it is my opinion. I'm personally really tired of all these modern day "Cinderella Story" types. If they wanna go all "Snow White and the Huntsman" with it, I'll give it a try. Not necessarily a war movie and turning it into a gore fest by any means... but a good live action... like PotC. IMDB has a page for it too. Lily and Cate are the only two confirmed actresses, as stated.

I recall Kairi talking about this, when her special lecturer said he was working on a Cinderella production. I'm just really fed up with these live action movies, to be honest. If it was a complete twist on the tale, with a little more maturity, there could be some potential. But seriously, there are already so many Cinderella movies out there, do we really need another? Although, Cate being cast is a little intriguing

There are so many live action Cinderellas. It would really have to put a fresh twist on it to keep my interest.

I recall Kairi talking about this, when her special lecturer said he was working on a Cinderella production. That I did I wasn't sure if it was actually disney or not, though - now I know! I'll no doubt watch it. I'm quite interested in the costumes and aesthetics more than anything else, to be honest Cate Blanchett seems a little young to be the evil step-mom though, surely? :c Richard Madden is rumored to be charming - which I do approve of, though

I think he has been cast as Prince Charming.
For now, this decision feels like Disney just trying to continue to make as much money as they can of Cinderella without doing the best thing of actually releasing the original animated classic in theaters so the public can see just how beautiful that film is. Brad Bird of Pixar and the director of The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol considers Cinderella to be his favorite of the classics.

I'm going to take a wait and see approach before I judge. Trailers are usually where I make my deciosion anyway. I'm not very happy with all of these re-creations either. However I adore Cate Blanchett and Lilly James. So that is what has kept me from saying "Not another one!"

this decision feels like Disney just trying to continue to make as much money as they can Of course that's what they're doing, haha. They can't survive on re-releases forever: perhaps this is proof that re-releases aren't doing as well as they hoped. It is a company after all, and nowadays company's aren't concerned with quality - they want profits! If I'm honest, I'm actually GLAD they're doing a new version - it shows a smidgen of effort rather than just cleaning up something they've already got in the archives... releasing the original animated classic in theaters so the public can see just how beautiful that film is. The problem is is that the public HAVE seen how beautiful that film is, and have done so since 1950.. it's nothing new, sure it's an experience going to the cinema and seeing it - but it's still the same old story and the same old animation that we all know and love. Brad Bird of Pixar and the director of The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol considers Cinderella to be his favorite of the classics. Not super sure what that has to do with the discussion, but always good to know Silver - that seems to be the best course of action atm, no point getting ahead of ourselves here

All I'm hoping for is not another modern day, high school based, Cinderella Story. And the route they went with Brandi back in the 90's was way too cheesy! Something time based like the original 50's classic animated version.

Arielle- If Disney is re-creating these classic films then I suspect it will be a period piece/fantasy film just like Snow White and the Huntsman and Oz: The Great and Powerful. I guess we'll see soon enough.

My issue here is one of why does the Walt Disney Company need to remake Cinderella. The original 1950 classic is just that a classic, beloved by many, including some very prominent and successful filmmakers such as Brad Bird. I understand that they want to make money. I just wish they'd do it without remaking their own "story" in live action.

Kairi - I see where you're coming from. There's a theatre franchise here that randomly do 'Disney Classics Month' and do screenings for some of the classic movies. It isn't as full as all the newer ones, so I think they do it for sentimental people like me But to be fair, it's only advertised on their website. In saying that, I don't think the recreation of Cinderella is a good substitute. As I, and others have said, there are far too many Cinderella movies out there for this movie to get lost in. Arielle - I actually liked that version! Silver - I really hope if that's the deal, that it's a darker themed. Just to have a fresh spin on the 'innocent' tale.

I think out of all the princess's Cinderella's tale is the one most commonly used. Which makes me kind of sick of it to be honest. If they do make it I hope that they can give it it's own kick - a live action like Snow White and The Huntsman would be lovely since I adored that film for it's twist to the story.
