the release date is somewhere near to 2009.
This doesn't appeal to me. first off, I don't think anyone could play a better Scrooge then Michael Cane in Muppet Christmas Carol. I really love that film. second of all although he has done some great stuff and is a good actor, Jim Carey is still not one of my favorite actors. and thirdly does that say 3D? That is never the best.

Yeah I loved The Polar Express and that type of animation is wonderful for such a film however for this particular film it does not fly with me. The original style of this film is the best which is Live Action with the one exception being the little Mcduck version cuz that was cute. I don't think Jim Carey would make a very good voice actor, I like seeing the great and funny body language that he does to go with his lines thats why I find him best acting as he more commonly does which is live Action. Plus I also kind of think that the world has enough versions of The Christmas Carol so I don't see this film as necessary. And Disney since they bought out the Muppets have their version...two in fact with the cute little McDuck version. I have only seen the beginning of The Muppet Christmas Carol but my BFF owns it and loves it and so does Alexis according to her post above. So Its apparent that the already exsisting Disney version of this film is popular enough. So this is just another money bag I am guessing. What happened to Disney going back to Original ideas like Atlantis and Brother Bear? They were starting to get their groove back on for a while there.

...Wait, how is Treasure Planet an orginal idea? Aside from the set in outer space thing, it's not an orginal idea at all. There are many, many versions of Treasure Island, including two Disney versions!

I read that Christopher Lloyd is supposedly portraying Jacob Marley.

yeah that is the rumor, and Tom Hanks is supposed to be Bob Crachit Micheal J. Fos as Tiny Tim, but so far Jim Carrey is the only one confirmed.

I predict that Jim Carrey's performance is going to cross between that of the Grinch and Count Olaf. Not that he didn't well in those films but I would really enjoy it if he decided to tackle a role where took the same concept as he did in Eternal Sunshine. (That was fantastic) But it wouldn't surprise me if the producers once again wanted him to potray the cold-hearted but misunderstood protaginist who is often seen as a villian. That maybe the personality of Scrooge but I no dout that Jim will put his own wild sense of humar into it like he always does.

Scrooge is a character that's funny to watch in situations but if you try to make him funny it, well its really outa character. I know Jim Carrey can be serious, he's proven that in The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, but he has a habit of turning some more serious characters into a laughing stock, epecially where family films are concerned.

I know it's early but I figured I'd give an update anyway. (Although I can't say I'm that happy) Here's the latest official news on this film. Jim Carrey will indeed be playing Ebenezer Scrooge. (If he does half the maginficent job of George C. Scott I swear I'm going to fall out my seat in shock) The rest of the cast includes Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and Cary Elwes. This film will be released in early November, featured in both IMAX and Disney Digital 3-D. And yes it is in they style of "Performance Capture" just like The Polar Express. But I'm guessing their techniques will be even more advanced. Sorry to say but I have to be honest. My hopes arn't too high for Disney this Holiday season.

wow, a completely different cast then we first heard. Why would it be in 3D? It might be good, but I don't have high hopes for it being great or a "modern classic". I don't know if there is any rumor of them wanting it to be a classic or maybe they want to twist the classic tale a bit.. I guess we will have to wait until we see and hear more.

I am very skeptical about this film. I mean I enjoy Jim Carey as an comedic actor but I am not sure how he will be able to pull of a role like this. I did like him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Number 23. I was not a huge fan of the animation in the Polar Express either so I am not sure how I will feel about this. The cast list so far is extremely promising, especially with Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and Cary Elwes. They are all magnificent actors!

that case does sound promising, but honestly, I liked the sound of the cast we originally heard, though I don't know where we heard that list. and a site that I was on confirmed that this is going to be in Digital 3D. If done like Up with just adding emphasis, it will be good.
