I know the 3rd has only just come out but rumours are already circulating the internet about the 4th film, with the writers, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, eager to start writing a 4th script and screenplay. Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow) and Geoffery Rush (Barbossa) have both agreed that they'd love to return as their respective characters but Orlando Bloom (Will) and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth) both stating they would not return for a future Pirates, Orlando because he reportedly feels as though he's been doing Pirates all his life and would like to do theatre work and Keira because she doesn't want to carry on acting and wants to step out of the limelight and take a break. Which is understandable. However, Jerry Bruckheimer isn't sure and thinks they should wait a few years before they start making another and only if the writers can come up with a plausible and good story. Gore Verbinski has also said that he'd be prepared to come back for another Pirates.
Storywise, the fountain of Youth that cropped up at the end of Pirates 3 is a possibility but also Jack discovering Atlantis, and also Jules Verne type plots such as flying machines and such. Most of this is summed up in:

It also mentions a meeting with the most ferocious pirate that ever lived on that page which is a plot I personally would love to see!
Production isn't expected to begin til at least 2009, with that page stating as such so we've got a while to wait if we wanna see another Pirates.
Personally, I would love love love for their to be a Pirates 4. I think there's still so much more to tell and I find the loss of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley to be quite a good thing to be honest. I always thought Will's character to be quite boring in all honesty :S
