Before I even see this, I need to be convinced that it's not going to contradict Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
In other words, I don't want some explanation for how Maleficent was misunderstood or somehow justified in murdering a child because she wasn't invited to a party.
If this is their version of Snow White and the Huntsman, then we need to see a radically different story like we saw with Snow White and the Huntsman, not a little tweak here and a little change there.

Perhaps if they hired a cast worthy of portraying these characters. I'd be more willing to think about it. I personally can not stand Angelina Jolie! She bores me to tears in any genre. I also can't begin to fathom how they thought Ellie Fanning could play a "timeless beauty with a golden voice".
I only gave Snow White and the Huntsman a try because of Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsoworth. Sure enough they were the reason I didn't leave the theatre. Which I was very tempted to do. That Razzie award nomination was right on the mark for Kristen Stewart. (And it has nothing to do with what happened behind the scenes with her and director Rupert Sanders)

Actually, I'd be okay if this was a full on musical because I don't believe the original Disney film is a musical. Yes, it has some songs, but the songs do not really advance the story as much as they compliment it. Note that my comment does not address whether or not those cast can actually sing. I can live with a lot of things on this project so long as in the end it bears little resemblance to the 1959 animated film.

It's nice to see the trailer for it. Though at the moment it doesn't have me too excited for it. Hopefully as time goes on I'll get more hyped up over it. ^^

I I thought this would be a live action take on Sleeping Beauty as opposed to a story trying to make us pity the Mistress of All Evil, I might feel differently about it. Before I see this film, I need to be convinced that this film will still make it perfectly clear that Maleficent is the powerful villain that we love to hate instead of a misunderstood sorceress. Cursing innocent children is absolutely heinous.

The evil cackle was better than I expected it to be; the trailer overall isn't too impressive but hopefully my mind will change later on. And I definitely agree - I'm hoping this will be a villain movie that doesn't give her some tragic backstory in order to justify her actions.
Also, Elle Fanning looks sooooo young. I keep on having to remind myself that Aurora was 16...

I actually really like the trailer. It's made me want to see it more now. But I do agree with Briar Rose's Dark Knight in saying that a backstory for Maleficent is a terrible idea. It's better to leave for the imagination, rather than making a battered childhood canon, or something along those lines. |

I saw the teaser last night in theaters before Frozen. There's such a potential for impressive visuals here given the source material. But, will this movie feature Maleficent? Or some other character simply named Maleficent?
