It could be even worse than the fact that it's a remake. If the rumored storyline is accurate, it's a complete reimagining of Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

This is moving forward swiftly and I for one am really looking forward to what they're doing with it. The cast gets me excited as well, aside from Jolie who I've never really been a fan of, we've got Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple (fast becoming hot property), Sharlto Copley as King Stefan which seems like great casting to me for some reason and Peter Capaldi. www.imdb.com/title/tt1587310/

Am I the only one who didn't know that Linda Woolverton was co-writing the script?

I agree! I've never been a fan to be quite honest, I can't think of a film where she's stood out for me but she does look the perfect fit for this!

I will not see this movie just for the fact that Angelina Jolie is in it. Not trying to be disrespectful if you are a fan.
However there has never been a single film she has done that left me saying "That was money well spent."

I just read through this whole thread and it's funny to see how many mixed reviews there have been from the beginning.
From the picture of Jolie as Maleficent, it looks pretty legit. Elle Fanning seems a little young, but she's 16 which is the age Aurora is supposed to be. I was really impressed with Elle in Super 8 and I think she will do a terrific job.
For me the only problem I would have is the script- I need good character development with a good plot. Maybe the trailer will provide some insight on what this movie will be like. I did not like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, but I like some of his ideas in other movies (Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands). If this movie focuses on other things besides costumes and makeup and being trippy, it should be good.

As far as I'm aware Tim Burton is no longer involved with the production.
According to IMDb, first time director Robert Stromberg is directing. He's the guy responsible for some of the visual effects in The Hunger Games, The Golden Compass and Pan's Labyrinth. So he does at least have a history with Fantasy!

I'll be the first to admit that a dragon fight sequence done right could look amazing in live action. But The Hobbit is going to beat them to the punch.
I think this movie is a huge gamble. If it's just a live action retelling of Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty, then it's pointless. And if they've reimagined it into a story where Aurora's parents were somehow responsible for Maleficent cursing their infant daughter, then the Walt Disney Company is literally insulting Walt Disney himself.
As far as I can tell, Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty made a few major changes to the story that were not found in prior versions. And the dark sorceress transforming into a dragon is one of them.

The release date of July 2, 2014 is 5 days after the latest Transformers movie. Not sure what they're thinking.
